My baby is 11 days old today, he is putting on weight and has 8-10 wet and dirty nappies so the midwife says there is no problem and my latch is fine.

But my baby is properly projectile sick (not a posset) we need to change his clothes, mine, his blanket the muslin etc it's a lot of milk coming back up :( this started on day 5 and happens 2/3 times a day.

It's making me really upset and worried, I'm too scared to feed him incase he is sick again. I spend my time winding him then he is frantic and gulpy hen he latches on. But if I don't wind him first he often is sick within 7/8 mins of feeding while still latched on.

He also seems full of wind and so I wind him everytime he pulls off coughing and I wind him at the end for ages but he hardly ever brings up anything, maybe one within 5 mins but then spends the next 30/45 mins moaning, grunting and wriggling before finally getting hiccups or vomiting or doing a big poo.

He goes about 3-4 hrs between feeds but yesterday went about 2-3.

Does anyon have any idea what could be causing this? He hates going on his back bless him :(

Yes the protector thingey is great as you can just chuck it on a quick wash afterwards and if you're lucky, you won't have to change ALL the bed sheets, just that!

My friend said you know you're really a mum when you've got puke on your boobs. Wink

And if this makes you feel better, I too was worried about the amount my DD was chucking up but both my GP and a paed said that so long as DD was not distressed and her weight gain was good and feeding was not painful, then all was fine.

So now the day times are much better I seem to have figured out what makes him sick and how best to catch it. Now though his poo has changed colour to more green an he is a nightmare from 7pm-8am. He has been awake since 2am and nothing info is right. Everytime I put him
Over my shoulder he burps but when I recline / semi recline he goes ape shit. Bit he still isnt screaming he's just not content like he is in the day :(

Reflux. Usually becomes obvious 2-5 weeks with lots of projectile voms. in day. I really hope it isn't that for you as it is such a pain but saounds like it to me. Grunting as milk goes up and down oseophagus and not liking being flat.

Winding is so important in reflux baby and can take ages and be multiple burps. Hold up 30 mins after feeds- nights are hellish. Tilt head of cot/basket with catalogues under head end legs of cot. Get an upright bouncer- spotty one from mothercare or baby bjorn expensive one. sling- upright (babybjorn again! or adapt a wrap so legs not bent in M- position(not good for spine but good for reflux). Get doc to prescribe infant gaviscon. get help at home.

6oz is a lot (i would say too much at this age) for bf baby. They take more from bottle as it is easier as every suck leads to loads of milk that must be swallowed. dd is 9 months and has never had this much (that I know of!).

I'm another one who had a baby like this. We persevered with it but in hindsight he probably had reflux. He's now 8 years old and still can't handle fizzy drinks without being sick, but perfectly healthy in other ways. Is it worth a trip to the GP to rule out reflux? The sickiness slowed down as he got older.

Just to say if it is reflux it settled a lot by 3 months and completely by 6 months in our ds (agree gaviscon a complete pain don't know why they can't have a liquid version with a better taste for babies ?)
