How do you get LO checked for tongue tie?

GP, HV, MW, other specialist? I feel a bit silly and don't know if should be concerned or not....

My LO has some of the symptoms of TT ie. occasionally makes a clicking sound when feeding, smallish mouth gape, frequent hiccoughs and I can hear the milk hitting her stomach, plus a couple of others.

However I've never had sore nipples, her weight gain has been good to date, sleeps well generally, feeds quite quickly and goes a good gap between feeds. She seems to be able to stick her tongue out so given we're pretty much fine should i just ignore it and assume the symptoms can be explained away by other things?

Hi there, we took DS to our local breastfeeding clinic at a SureStart centre, the senior bf advisor there had a look and said she thought it was a likely TT (we suggested they check as strong family history). They then recommended a specific lactation consultant who's well respected in TT diagnosis and treatment.
HV, MW, and GP didn't have a clue, so if they look and say its not TT take it with a pinch of salt!

Lots of lactation consultants do free 'surgeries' once a week, so find your local ones and see if you can pop along.

PS how far can she stick her tongue out, out past her lips or just to them?
There are different types of tongue tie, those that restrict forward, upward, and side movement, so being able to sticking her tongue out doesn't rule it out.

It is unlikely that GP, HV, or MW are experts and may tell you it's fine.

6yo is suffering the consequences of untreated tongue tie. It is not good. He has had severe reflux, countless tummy bugs, allergy and intolerance, sleep problems, problems with solids, slight speech problems and now I discover that his facial formation has been affected and he is about to get braces and headgear to guide his facial growth in the right direction.

Please don't ignore it.
