Walnut - thanks for the kind words - but I am not good with words - I just have a big mouth - here is a big Grin to prove it !

I know what you mean about defrosting the old brain - I used to read loads and now spend most of my time on the net while DS naps.

So far I love the book - people say it's militant left wing feminist "boobs out for the baby" stuff - to which I say - so what ?

Everything she says is extremely valid ---painfully so.

A tempting read. My only problem is that once I read something that I feel passionate about, I am rather like a dog with a bone and can't let go, feeling the need for severe ranting at anyone who will remotely listen. Also leads to sobbing in the bath at the state of the world. Think I might be an adolescent in 30-year-old's clothing... Sad

Walnut me too!! I'm not even joining in

(It's fastasleep en francais)

PS Have added book to Amazon wish list ready for when I am a calm, wise and reflective adult not at all bitter about womens* undervalued role in society (next week maybe?) Ahem.

*I have no idea where the apostrophe should go in the case, if at all. Must dust off "Eats Shoots & Leaves"... Smile

Happy reading.x

Admiring your restraint! Pass the secret on Smile

dormir - oh go on go on go on get it off your chest (excuse pun !) I love a good rant !

walnut - I bought it from abe books who do out of print books. Apparently she is working on another version right now. I think she teaches at London University.

If any of you decide to read it, let's do a thread and discuss it Wink

You know, that show wasn't that bad. Yes, it was sensationalist (hello, it's telly!), but it showed breastfeeding toddlers in a positive light. And it did talk about how important bf is, and how rare it is. There was that lovely girl up north who was working to improve local bf rates, with great success.

But without the bf 8-year-old, it wouldn't have been interesting enough for telly, unfortunately.

koolkat · 25/03/2006 08:00

NQC - I agree it wasn't as bad as it could have been - but I still thought most of the women came across as alternative hippy sorts.

In the real world most of us are not like that - ok I am left wing and quite a big mouth militant when it comes down to it but I don't live on a farm nor do I wish to bf my DS when he is at school (he is only 21 months now so plenty of time left).

I associated most with the lovely Northern women who were volunteers and seemed very normal, sadly the programme did not focus on them - because they were too normal perhaps ?

Yes, you are right telly is meant to be OTT, otherwise no one would watch it !

Think I might try and read that book too.

Didn't see the Trisha program, but I did see THAT program. The anti-bfing people always seem to be ill-informed, inarticulate idiots. (not, repeat NOT suggesting that all ffers are like that, just the ones on these programs). Never forotten the quote from Mr Peddo-fiddlier "It's not natural, is it?".
