Breast feeding positions without the neck and back ache?

I absolutely adore feeding my daughter. Only problem is I have on off neck and back ache from it. I like to snuggle up when I feed her, which results in hunched back and when I'm looking down interacting with her this also results in a stiff neck!

How do you feed your little ones?

I also feed laying down but not so often

Do you use a pillow under DD's head? I found the v shaped ones good, esp while DS was very little, as it supported him and allowed me to sit up straight from time to time without him losing his latch

I mostly fed lying down so I could fall asleep. It's the only way I could feed after a gruesome birth and kind of stayed that way!

I also found a cushion really good for this early on, while he was still feeding for up to an hour at a time. Once he got quicker it stopped being an issue. I tried with just a pile of pillows at first but they were too soft and yielding I found.

Mind you, I find the 'hunched forward' feeding position to be exactly compensated by the 'over-extended back, carrying baby' position I adopted for every waking, non-feeding minute! Posture and counter-posture...

She's 16weeks now. I have a dream genii but she fits nicely in my arms I think I hunch over more in the night feeds as I just out her on and half asleep just. Hunch.

She's a quick 5/10min feeder but over time my back just feels weak. And my neck!

Maybe this is due to loss of core strength from abdo separation too?
When I fed dd1 it was the same.

Is it ok for their tummies when they're laid on you feeding? As in in cradle position but snuggled in. She seems comfy thing way and burps fantastically but just wondered that's all as it sometimes makes a gut noise when she's feeding! Probably from being greedy and guzzling!Grin

We do sitting up - I lean back slightly in the sofa and DD sits with one leg either side of my leg. I put my arm around her to support and she leans onto it (hope you can make some sense of that!) Comfy for both of us and don't get the backache I used to got almost constantly when I fed DS.
