5 months in right boob still hurts when feeding

The right side has always been trickier than the left, and when I was expressing regularly, consistently lower production. I had a blocked duct on the right about 8 weeks in and that cleared, leaving it feeling bruised for a week or so and then fine again. I then had a blocked duct again about 2 months ago, which cleared but once again I've been left with a constantly bruised feeling.

The latch is always painful on the right. At times it has been excruciatingly cry in such such pain latching, easing off after a minute or so. Now it is simply 'brace myself' painful.

I saw a lactation consultant first time around who adjusted her position which worked wonderfully. This time around, no matter what positioning I've tried I cannot shift this pain. I'm worried that I will cause lasting damage.

The pain is not specific to a duct, it is a stabby pain that comes and goes a few times a day, all over the boob. As if a few of the ducts are generally a bit clogged up.

Does anyone have any advice? Sometimes I just want to give up on that side and feed exclusively from the left!!

Is your nipple inverted? One of mine is and the pain if I feed from that side is awful. With DC1 I put up with it, but with DC2 I have just fed from the non-painful side and it's been fine.

My inverted side was also the one with blocked ducts and general pain. None of that second time around.

Have you tried nipple shields? I found they helped a little but the pain was still bad.

P.S. people do bf twins, so you can feed from one side - and very soon your baby will start taking nutrition from other sources so should start feeding less anyway.

Nipple looks quite normal, exactly the same as the other.

We did just start weaning 2 days ago! Keen to bf for as long as possible, it continuing one side is possible without too much weird lopsided ness, it is an appealing idea!

Poppy good to know that it wasn't painful second time around - I'd hate to go through all of this pain next time!

Same as poppy. Pain with DD1 was awful but hardly noticed pain with DD2. Also, I've heard from some friend's they only feed on one side. I think your body just gets used to it and adjusts...

I do look a little bit lopsided as the day goes on (if DS is in nursery for the day and I don't express) but DH says it's not too bad, and I also sling a scarf around my neck/chest or a cardi if I get self-conscious.

P.S. the sucking removes the inversion, so it might not look inverted anymore, but it might have been before? Mine is not always inverted but I found out from talking to a friend with both inverted that she had the same pain and that was why.

It's never appeared to be inverted, surely I would know if it was? Or can there be something odd happening behind the scenes?!
