Storing breastmilk

Hi all,

I've been looking on the Internet for answers but seem to come across so many differing opinions it's difficult to know what's best!

Firstly as I'm producing a large amount of milk at the moment, I'm running out of bottles when pumping into feed sized portions so I was wondering if it is ok to combine two or more chilled expresses into one bottle to save space - obviously I will use it by the 'expiry' date of the first express and will be pouring into newly sterilised bottles for feeding. also can I keep adding expresses together until a bottle is full or is there a limit as to how many expresses you should add together - it will not be over more than a 24 hour period per bottle.

Secondly as there will be around 8 ounces in each bottle if i am allowed to do the above and my little one is on no where near this amount - am I allowed to remove the full bottle from the fridge and pour a little at a time into a sterilised bottle for feeding and then put the rest back in the fridge and repeat this until the bottle is empty?

I don't want to freeze it as much as is possible as I've been told it kills some of the antibodies.

Who knew breastmilk was such a mine field!!!

Thanks in advance

Yes to all of the above questions. It's fine to mix milk so long as its been kept chilled and you stick to the expiry of the oldest milk (5 days in back of fridge, not the door). Also fine to use a bit at a time.

What you are suggesting is just fine. Breastmilk has its own antibacterial properties.
