CMPI & reintroducing

Ive been soy & dairy free since DS was 6 weeks. He's now 5 months & I've been advised to reintroduce soya for a week, then add dairy to see if he reacts.

How quickly would I see a reaction? I'm on day two and DS has been a bit sicky & irritable but it could just be an off day.

Is there anything I should look out for symptom wise?

Hello, I am doing exactly the same as you at the moment. Dd3 is almost 6 months and I have taken it slowly week by week. I think it depends on each baby individually how soon you may see a reaction. It also depends on the severity of their symptoms, dd had blood in her nappy and a lot of mucus. I have noticed far less mucus and no blood. She is still sickier and irritable if I eat too much. Usually its the next day I notice, before it was within 4-6 hours. I have noticed she gets a runny nose, cough and itchy eyes when I have tried eating a little dairy everyday. Definitely not a cold because it will stop and start according to what I eat. Dry skin patches I think she suffers from too. I am really excited because all of her symptoms are so mild this week! I am no expert but hope this helps a little. Good luck! Grin

That's really helpful thanks. We've had a cough the last two days as well as sickness & irritability so I guess he's does have issues with soya. I'll stop the soya & try dairy next week.

It's hard to know what his symptoms were before as he was diagnosed after an episode of apnea. There wasn't anything specific otherwise. I'm obviously keen to avoid another one of those as it aged me about a million years!

Oh god I feel for you, so worrying. Just take each day as it comes, my dd has same problem with soy too. Hopefully our dc's will be lucky and grow out of it. I have noticed such a difference in the last week. Dd used to react to eggs and salmon. Seems ok now. I think irritability in an otherwise happy baby is one of the obvious signs.

My dc3 (dairy and soy allergies) is 8 months and still v sensitive to dairy (in that I ate a single chocolate on my bday last week and he was up every 2 hours in the night, grizzly and wouldn't settle then v mucusy the next day - could hear it rattling in his little chest!) Sad He and I both managed to ingest soy too (should have known by now that vegetable oil = soy) Hmm and he wouldn't settle then, twisting and writhing on pain Sad

I have been advised to try giving him dairy at 12 months, and the paediatric dietitian specified dairy before soy as babies react quicker to that (if they're going to) than soy, to which a reaction can take weeks apparently!

My dc3 also gets eczema flares (check folds of skin and behind ears, also cradle cap) and dry sandpapery skin (he was v spotty as a newborn before I excluded dairy).

Good luck! I'd kill for a whippy ice-cream... Smile

Thanks ... I've noticed a couple of patches of eczema now on his leg & face Sad he also has cradle cap & had the sandpapery skin when new now I think about it.

He does have a transient mucous sound in his chest too. I guess he does have issues then.

I'm going to hold off giving him anymore soya or dairy & try again in may be three months time or may be even a year. Really hope he out grows it.
