One year old - time for whole milk and cup?

Ds has just turned one. Transitioned to formula from bf a month ago, due to personal reasons.

I'm not sure how and when to transition to whole milk and a cup instead of formula? Im slightly bemused by the array of cups available. Or should I continue with formula/ start toddler milk. I know some people think cows milk is bad for you and it should be avoided.

I normally try to make very informed decisions but the year mark has crept up on me and my sleep deprived brain isn't coping with the vast amounts of information on google.

Any help or anecdotes greatly appreciated.

formula is cows milk. Toddler milks aren't needed unless there is some sort of diatry deficiency and in that case you could give baby coralline drops instead.

Some people find mixing the formula with cows milk gradually helps the transition. As for cups do you use one for water already? If not then your best to go with a free flow beaker, no valves. or an open cup can be a little meat to start with.

He can drink from an open cup and use a straw. Wasn't sure if the sippy cups were good for their teeth?

Think I will start gradually mixing the milk and formula.

Is there a recommended amount that he should be drinking? I was originally aiming for two years of breastfeeding, so it seems strange to be winding things up with the formula at a year.

I believe the teeth problem is the ones with the valves in. As long a it's a free flow then they are fine. But if he's already mastered a straw that would probably work well.

I can't really help on amounts. He probably only needs it morning and night.

Thank you Smile I'm not sure why I'm so daunted/confused by this. Blush

I have moved all 3 of mine from formula straight to full fat milk at 1 year. Just a straight swop, no mixing etc. It depends how often they would like the milk Grin. Mine took morning, night and a midmorning drink until about 16 months, then dropped to the bedtime bottle just - how often does he take the formula? Is his diet good?

I use the cheap free flowing cups, although my youngest daughter still has her milk at night in the bottle and then brushes her teeth about 30 mins later. She's 18 months.

I used boiled + cooled cows' milk from about 10 months when they gave up bfing. Cows' milk is fine before a year as long as it's cooked so I figured cooked and cooled was also fine - especially as formula is basically exactly that.

I used a free flow Tommy Tippee cup at around a year (to limit the mess!) and moved to open cups pretty soon after. Had a doidy but neither DC ever really got on with it. DD likes using it sometimes now she's 3.4 just for the novelty.

He has a bottle in the morning and in the evening. Sometimes has one midday. His diet is pretty good, unless he is teething. Then he only wants bread and fruit. I tend to just give him more milk if he hasn't eaten much.

I tried just a straight swap, but he looked at me as though I had gone mad before flinging the bottle away. Grin
