Can I take 30c Arnica tablets whilst breast feeding?

I bought some Arnica today to help with csection recovery as it seems to be taking forever to get better. The box says to consult a doctor before use but I thought Arnica was commonly used to help reduce swelling after a csection?

Can I use it? 17 day old dd is exclusively breastfed.

Hello again!!

I've been taking it :)

GlaikitFizzog · 08/09/2012 19:36

I took it while feeding.

TheTermagantToaster · 08/09/2012 19:37

It's homeopathic, so yes you can take it.

That's all I'm saying Confused

IWipeArses · 08/09/2012 19:43

It's homeopathic, watch out for the sugar.

MrsShrek3 · 08/09/2012 19:50

I took it after the birth of all mine. Brilliant stuff. Oh they were all fully bf too.

MrsShrek3 · 08/09/2012 19:50

Ps a midwife recommended it to me before the birth of dc1!

PenelopeChipShop · 08/09/2012 20:06

Yes it's fine. I took it to help c section recovery too, impossible to know if it contributed I suppose but fwiw I've recovered fairly well so it'd say take it! Am BFing too, no effect on that.

numbertaker · 08/09/2012 20:07

yes you can. but I would look into proper doses.

redandyellowbits · 08/09/2012 21:43

Fab, thank you :) I will take but starting from tomorrow. Did you ladies take or do anything else to help healing after a csection?

It's taking ages and is very frustrating especially with other DCs to care for.

what toaster and iwipearses are trying to say is that as it is homeopathic, there is no active ingredient - it's just a sugar pill. You could eat the whole lot if you wanted, really.

Hope you feel better soon. I took weeks to feel right after my CS with DC1 :)

All that really helped was resting for me - I was glad to avoid a CS with DC2 as I it is hard looking after yourself, never mind anyone else!

I was prescribed diclofenac as an antiinflammatory when I was in hospital -could your GP pprescribe more?

redandyellowbits · 10/09/2012 04:10

I was prescribed a course of diclofenac straight after the csection but have finished that now.

It's difficult to get to the docs as its a half hour walk away, and I would have to take all 3 DDs (aged 5, 3 and newborn) with me. I'm not up to walking that distance yet.

I do have ibuprofen though so will try that.

With the Arnica - I know it's homeopathic and don't usually believe that crap works. But I am willing to try anything at the moment. :)

(cocodamol) Codeine and the other diclofenac plus prescribed neurofen express for a month was what it took me. And it was still painful.
It's major surgery - try rest (hard with kids I know) but if anything rest tummy muscles. No lifting..heavy stuff (I know Smile)
And air the scar, it helps.
Arnica is more for healing really than pain relief - it works. Same as tea tree and witch hazel oils that Neals Yard sells for new mums.
Whatever works for you! Take care and hope you feel better soon!

notcitrus · 10/09/2012 07:27

Arnica has evidence that it works. Chemists sell 10% solutions of the stuff for a couple quid.
Your 'arnica' tablets have no arnica in them if they are 30c , so depends on if you think a sugar pill had memory of water it was once soaked in which had memory of arnica molecules that were diluted out...

GlaikitFizzog · 10/09/2012 08:31

You can buy voltarol prescription strength over the counter which is diclafenic. Can y get someone to pick you up some?

Or my GP will do a phone consult and leave a prescription for collection. Thee hospital sent me home with 2 days worth of pain relief after my cs. I was straight on the phone when I got home to get more from the GP. She was shocked that was all they gave me.

Trills · 10/09/2012 08:32

Yes, there's nothing in it at all that will harm you.

Trills · 10/09/2012 08:32

Tictacs are cheaper. I'm a doctor, if I tell you that they will make you feel better will that work?
