pmsl - I distinctly remember the Babywhisperer saying you can dreamfeed from the breast....

...How?

Or do I just have the deepest sleeping son ever??? I seem to recall doing it with DD, so am assuming it is the deep sleeping son reason!

He is best being fed before the chiropractor, but is out cold, so I thought I'd give the dreamfeeding a go... Not a flicker, when he wouldn't even contemplate opening his mouth, I even tried opening it a little bit and squirting some in (not sure if that should be a Blush or a Grin!), and he just spat it out and went back to snoring!!!

Anyone else had this problem??? I know I'm going to be wanting to dream feed at night in a few weeks....

Both DSs have rejected totally the notion of being fed whilst asleep - DS2 purses his lips beautifully and frowns at me, then snores gently!

No help, but lots of empathy!

I never managed it either. When ds is asleep, he is asleep. End of. Grin.

It's fair enough, really. I'd not like to wake up in time for breakfast, only to discover that DH had shovelled porridge and bacon sarnies down my neck an hour earlier.

from memory you do have to wake them up when introducing d/f
ie, unzip grobag, take legs out of babygro, turn lights on
you don't have to go to these extremes night after night -- they get used to it and barely wake up before long
Also, you're trying to tweak their appetite slightly, to engineer a hunger when they're not used to feeding... so you need a bit of persistence to begin with

DS1 used to dreamfeed - or should I say he'd fall asleep on the breast and as I couldn't move him or he'd wake up straight away (he used to co-sleep and when he went to bed - so did I.......), and then used to just keep feeding.

I even managed to dreamfeed DS2 with a bottle once - rushed into his room thinking he was awake (having already warmed the bottle up) and discovered it was actually DS1 making noise - didn't want to waste the milk so shoved the bottle in his mouth and he duly polished 7oz Shock Blush

Took about a week or so of lifting ds#3 to get him to dream feed but it paid off. Between the ages of 10weeks - 4mnths I was doing this at 10pm and he would sleep through til about 4 or sometimes even 6!! So well worth it. Now he's 9m and am thinking I should maybe try again as he's waking almost everynight between 3/4:30 for a feed Sad

Maybe try rubbing his cheek or squeezing / stroking his hand if rubbing his lips with your nipple and spraying milk about the place doesn't work. Good luck.

I had to turn lights on, and wake him up properly first, then change his nappy mid-feed to keep him awake enough to take a full feed- until he was a bit older anyway.
