pmsl - I distinctly remember the Babywhisperer saying you can dreamfeed from the breast....

...How?

Or do I just have the deepest sleeping son ever??? I seem to recall doing it with DD, so am assuming it is the deep sleeping son reason!

He is best being fed before the chiropractor, but is out cold, so I thought I'd give the dreamfeeding a go... Not a flicker, when he wouldn't even contemplate opening his mouth, I even tried opening it a little bit and squirting some in (not sure if that should be a Blush or a Grin!), and he just spat it out and went back to snoring!!!

Anyone else had this problem??? I know I'm going to be wanting to dream feed at night in a few weeks....

there is no way I could do a dreamfeed from the breast. Even if they did latch on they would go straight back to sleep! Don't see how it is possible myself.

I guess if I can't then I can express and tell DH it's his new bonding job, so I can go to bed earlier Grin

change their nappy first

wakes them up enough

mine co-slept for the first six weeks and I fed them from the breast

SoupDragon · 16/03/2006 10:27

I've done it. Except it's me that's been dreaming, not DD :o Fed her lying in bed at midnight, fell asleep and woke up 2 hours later...

NotQuiteCockney · 16/03/2006 10:43

I did it for ages with DS2, didn't wake him up at all.

I had to focus quite hard to make let-down happen, as he only sucked faintly until the milk started coming. Once the milk was coming, he was fine.

I think it took a few tries to get it really working, though.

No dreamfeeding for me. Would NEVER wake my dd from sleep at night for any reason whatsoever. Then again, she only slept for 2-3 hours, if I was lucky and was touch-and-go whether she would re-settle. Dreamfeeders must be good sleepers, by definition Grin

Flamesparrow · 16/03/2006 13:51

Oooh I do the me dreaming lots Wink... poor little guy last night - I got him all sorted (he latches himself on in bed), and then realised he'd been bumping against me for a while, but not feeding... hadn't taken my bra down Blush - the poor little guy was trying to get milk from cotton!

No issue with the let down here - I flood the second I'm near a baby's mouth Grin.

Update from this morning - he sneezed a few times and stirred himself just enough to work out that food could be on offer, and went from there. He was awake for the feed, but went straight back to sleep when he came off.

I did this loads with ds. Just lifted him out of bed and put my nipple by his mouth and he always opened his mouth to feed and fed well - in fact much less painful or stressed than he normally would feed. He was always really dopy afterwards and went straight back to sleep - so it does work for some.

He was never a very heavy sleeper though Grin. Stopped doing it though as it didn't help him sleep any longer Grin
