'Happy chuckers' Why are some babies so cheerfully sick everywhere? <wipes sick off everything>

Is it just the immature stomach valve thing?

DS2 is copiously sick (normally just after a grin so we're going 'Aww' before we get coated) loads and my washing pile is mounting.

He is huge and happy so I'm not really worried, just wondered why!

I do remember getting puked on by his big brother, but not this much. I think he grew out of it as he started sitting up, DS2 is 4.5 months so hopefully not too long...

It's rubbish, isn't it? DD2 was a puker. I think she was about 4 or 5 months before it calmed down. I remember one day I couldn't go out because she'd puked over the clean laundry and all over me so I didn't have any clean clothes for either of us.

Think mine was oversupply/fast let-down, are you having anything similar?

ObviouslyInvisible · 05/09/2012 15:56

My Ds was sick all the time, after every feed. I used to have to carry towels around with me so I could wind him without getting covered in sick. He also vomited whenever he cried for more than a minute.

He got better once he started on solid food, but still carried on throwing up if he had a tantrum until he was about 2 and a half. It made it very difficult to ignore his tantrums, because I knew I'd have to clean up sick if I didn't try and calm him down immediately.

Hope your Ds2 grows out of it soon!

EasilyBored · 05/09/2012 16:22

DS is the same. He's 8 months and it's got a bit better recently. I've just resigned myself to always having a bit of puke somewhere on me.

NorbertDentressangle · 05/09/2012 16:31

My 2 were both like this.

I could never feed them anywhere else (eg. friends house, cafe etc) without first protecting any surface within their range just in case. Similarly I couldn't just hand them over to anyone after a feed in case they puked milk all down the poor unsuspecting person.

DS holds the record for the most amount of items 'hit' in one massive puke:

his babygro
his vest
my top
my bra
my jeans
my pants (the sick ran down my front and down the front of my jeans)
the sofa
a cushion
the floor
a rug

Hmm
jaggythistle · 05/09/2012 17:16

I was running about this morning going 'he's been sick on all my jeans!'

I don't think I have oversupply, he chokes a bit now and again, normally if we've been busy and he's got really hungry - he latches on a bit vigorously!

My DTs were happy chuckers. After every feed (breastfed).

It went from vomiting after every feed to very very rarely at 7 months - I still remember the surprise I felt when I hung out a load of washing and realised there weren't any muslins in the load Grin

I hope it improves soon, meanwhile, both of you should wear white (and not be fussy about splotches and smells :) )

jaggythistle · 05/09/2012 17:34

i think it was a similar age for DS1 happy, at least it's just milky sick. it's every feed here too, although he's ok at night. i think he's slightly better when lying still.

twin chuckers must have been messy!

have definitely lowered standards, anything not soaked stays on pretty much. Grin

All four of mine puked for England - very happily. Just got used to carrying 'chuck cloths' everywhere. It settled down around the six month mark.

I used to put it down to all them being such terribly greedy children - if you drink as much milk as they seemed to (breastfed so I couldn't tell exactly), your stomach must have a limit. It was like carrying an over-full jug around - something's bound to spill out.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 05/09/2012 17:45

DD was like this. DS (DC2) wasn't, and his nappies didn't leak either. The lack of washing is lovely!

DD grew out of it also, I think about 6 months.

TyrionTheImp · 05/09/2012 17:50

DC2 did this. DH would march up and down with him over his shoulder in an evening to try and settle him and his back and the floor would end up covered. I smelled of vomit for 6 months, had muslins and towels in easy reach wherever I was and the washing machine was always on.

At about 6 or 7 months it just stopped. He's 12mo now and hasn't been sick once since 7 months.

jaggythistle · 05/09/2012 18:22

DH gets quite a high percentage of the sick. Grin i think it's because I'm lazy and on mn sitting still with DS2 and he's picking him up and playing more.

yes tyrlon every time i move to another room or go out i take loads of muslins and (inadequately sized) bibs.

the other week my friend said "imagine how big he'd be if he didn't throw up so much!" Shock

norbert that did sound an impressive sick! DS2 did a good one yesterday that got DH and then rebounded over a cupboard, wall and floor.

DS was just a greedy guts, and would swallow more milk than he wanted and chuck the rest. Stopped about 5 months.
Friends dd otoh, continued to chuck till she was at least 18m - I remember her crawling along vomming cheerily

NorbertDentressangle · 05/09/2012 18:47

CMOT -thats reminded me that of a friends DS who was still at the vomming stage when crawling. One day he crawled over to me and vommed all over my feet and filled my Birkies.

CMOTDibbler · 05/09/2012 18:50

did they ever stop smelling ?

NorbertDentressangle · 05/09/2012 18:55

I seem to remember binning them as they were cheaper imitation ones so couldn't be bothered spending ages trying to rid them of that distinct stale milky vomit aroma!

TruthSweet · 05/09/2012 18:59

DH got puked in his mouth so often he actually had a preference* for just breast milk compared to food & breast milk. I don't know what DD1 had against him but he was always getting vomited on/in!

*As in it wasn't quite so foul the 2nd time round as food was!

slothprincess · 05/09/2012 20:38

My DD is 9 months and the vomming shows no sign of abating. Now she's crawling, she's leaving little patches of puke all over the carpet. Our carpet is thankfully very old and stained already, so we don't really care. But in a certain light, it looks awful!
