Leaving LO with dad for a couple of days but what about Breast pump in hand luggage....

Any tips on flying with a breast pump please... I am flying without my LO and need to take thebmedela with me. Will I be allowed to take it on as hand luggage on a BA flight through London airport security?

Please share your experience as I am feeling quite anxious about my first trip away without LO. The pump in hand luggage issue is just one of my worries! How often should I pump? LO is 3 months old and been on a bit of a feeding frenzy growth spurt recently. Dad has milk for when I am away so no worrie there.

Everything I can find suggests there should be no problem taking it on board. You might get some questions about what it is but it should be fine.

(A friend went to the Olympics with hers and the two young squaddies on the security gate were fascinated by it! Grin)

I've flown with a breast pump a few times with no questions asked - advent hand one. In fact I've even pumped (and dumped) in airport toilets nervously waiting for the bomb squad to burst through due to the weird noise. I think in the US you are even allowed bring expressed milk without the baby but havent tried that..

Make sure you also bring photos of your baby - I used my I touch- as i found it really helped get things started. At three months, I would give a good bit of time. I'd do 2 20 min sessions during the day and I'd suppose you'd need a morning and evening one two, possibly. Good luck!

I flew easyjet from gatwick to germany with an electric breastpump earlier this year. I just pumped when my boobs got heavy, but dd was 6 months so I didn't need to do it that often.

Oops, meant to say the pump was in hand luggage too.

Thanks Ladies. The Medela swing went in my hand luggage and no questions were asked.
I pumped every 2 1/2 - 4 hours during the day and then before bed & when I woke up. Tbh mornings were horrid as I woke up in a lake with boobs like massive rocksGrin
I had a fab time but I won't be doing that again in a hurry as I missed my baby and the whole pumping scenario is a PIA.
I too pumped & dumped in an airport toilet wondering if the bomb squad would be sent in!!! I also pumped & dumped in a beach club toilet and in the car. I was too anxious to go out clubbing as the need to pump every few hours meant I would have had to take the pump. So not glamorous & I couldn't face the questions if security checked my bag!!!

However it was a fab trip for my best mate's bday so was worth the effort & anxiety. Smile
