BFing and the pill, any experiences?

My ds is 9 weeks and ebf. I'm just starting to think about getting back on contraception (i know it's late but that's a whole other thread!)

I was on the mini pill before and th doctor tells me that it's suitable for BFing mums but someone who as been on it told me it interfered with her milk supply. I would hate to do anything to mess up feeding now that s established. Just wanted to canvass opinion really, has anyone ese found this or has it been ok?

And as an aside I know most them only have a 3 hour window in which you can take it- fine when geting up for work every day but is this practical with the occasional chaos of a small baby?!

I used the mini pill with both mine - I mixed fed DS for 6 months and EBF DD for 15 months and had no problems with either. From memory I managed the time slot OK - I'm not sure whether mine was 3hrs, but seemed to work out alright.

I'm on cerazette -it's a mini pill but with a 12 hour window. Fine for bfing - no milk issues for me. And the bonus of no periods!

Seeline · 03/09/2012 12:23

That name rings a bell gnoomi - I didn't think I only had a 3hr window! It was 8 years ago so not as clear in the memory as it once was Grin

I'm on cerazette to, no problems with supply hear. But then I've always had a very good supply.

I, like the 12 window to need it with the cause of small children.

Brilliant thanks, I might give it a go then... I guess if anything happens to milk u can just stop but I am a bit paranoid, also thinking I am normal enough without adding more to the mix but I guess most forms involve hormones anyway.

I ebf-ed both and had Cerazette - no problems at all.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 04/09/2012 09:03

I was on cerazette as well and have no problem EBF my DD.

I have the implant (same hormones) and had no problems with BF, and I couldn't forget to take it...

PenelopeChipShop · 04/09/2012 14:25

Does it hurt much having the implant put in Itsallgoingtobefine?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/09/2012 14:42

Didn't hurt at all, I think a local anaesthetic was used? Getting it out is a bit more of a mission apparently, but I've not had to go through that yet...

IShallCallYouSquishy · 04/09/2012 20:59

Started mini pill when DD was 9 weeks and nearly 6 weeks on no problem with supply at all.

MrsPeytonJones · 06/09/2012 08:53

I started the mini pill when my dd was 28 months and it did decrease my supply. My dd told me there was less milk, she was very grumpy and she also started to switch nurse frequently (trying to up the supply). I only took one packet and then stopped. My supply was back by the evening of the next day.
I spoke with NCT counsellor and the BFN at the time and both were very supportive and helpful. HTH
