Dd3 is 9 days old

My nipples are blistered and bleeding
Feeding is agony.

I've been using a sheild some feeds to rest
Nipples but she doesn't feed properly. Or drain breast. Think now have mastitis (red patches on one breast hurts hot lumpy)

So I either use sheild and feed inefficiently for hours and get mastitis or rip my nipples to shit.

I cannot go on in this agony

Really feel for you. I used the shield a few times also. If it gets you and her through a feed or 2 then thats great.

Is the burning / stabby pain in my boobs after I've fed her connected to thrush?
After she feeds I have a stabbing pain in mi breasts like a burning let down feeling?

I did not have stubby pain, because we caught it before the thrush went into the breast tissue, but I understand it is common in others. We had creams prescribed and it was a bugger to get rid, but at lease symptoms were alleviated very quickly. Canesten or/and Daktarin. Those are otc medicines, but make sure you and the baby have it before going down that route.

Get her checked again for TT. Some people can't see it - you need an expert not a MW. I went to bf groups where the counsellors told me dd had a minor tie as did paediatricians - wasn't until I went to a lactation consultant did I get a proper diagnosis. Can you afford to pay for one to visit?

I had stabby pain also. I think this can be related to mastitis also (which I also had). Sending you hugs, you will get through this x

Stabbing burning pain could well be thrush. I had it too. Is your baby's mouth white-ish? I had daktarin gel for my nips but they were so Buggered that I couldn't bare to wash it off again before feeds & as I was told as wasn't to come in contact with it,i did a lot of research & found an oral antibiotic that i could take that would beneficially transfer to as through milk & treat his thrush too to stop us passing it back & forth. The antibiotic was fluconazole,I found the info on kellymom website, checked it on the WHO website & printed off the relevant info to show my GP who seemed entirely clueless about thrush. Only wanted to topically treat one or.other of us,not both. Good luck.

as = ds. Sorry.

A lot of kind posts - but OP you need a midwife to see you asap - not waiting until Tuesday FGS.

Unlikely to be thrush so early on (though possible, I agree).

You are entitled to help, midwifery help is available, you are an emergency.

tuckingfits · 02/09/2012 00:30

My son appeared to be born with oral thrush - or at least developed it within a day or two of being in the hospital. He passed it to me via nipples. I have no idea if that is unusual but I just wanted to emphasise it's possibility. I agree with tiktok that you are a priority to be seen tonight or tomorrow by whoever you choose to see. Your dd is so little & you are in such pain. NHS24 for a referral to out of hours doctor?

3littlerabbits · 02/09/2012 21:57

How are you doing today? I missed the bit about waiting til Tues - dont be waiting, out of hours doc/ midwives / health visitor etc etc - keep phoning til you get someone. Hope things are going ok. Thinking of you.
(my dc was 13days when I spotted the white patches in mouth and realised it was thrush, although of course it mightnt be this for you, it could well be)
