Lip tie, painful nursing and gappy teeth

Since ds 2 (11mo) started growing his top teeth I have noticed that feeding is getting more and more painful, especially at night and when he's tired, as his teeth rub against my nipple. He also has a sizeable gap between his two middle teeth at the top. He was born with a tongue tie, and from my googling I am pretty sure he also has a lip tie.

Is there any thing I can/should do about this and are there any positions or techniques I can try to make nursing less painful?

Thanks MummyPig. I have the same feeling as you about the hcp's and breadfeeding. I could always just do it privately, though depends how much they're gonna charge I guess. Waiting to hear from Cote Royd to see what they suggest.

UPDATE: Just checked my emails and for anyone that's interested, Dr Levinkind is awaiting the installation of a laser in his London clinic and hopes to be able to offer the lip correction service in the very near future. May be that I get an appt with him Smile

Bunt Sad I know how it feels. We had 8 weeks of feeding hell when he was born because of tongue tie.

Got email back from Cote Royd as well. £50 for inital consult then £200 for the procedure itself Shock followed by another £150 of extra, recommended stuff...

Might go see my Gp first Grin

But you know it will be done properly at Cote Royd.......

ooohh, that is pricey. would that be both tongue and lip, or just lip?

sounds like we are having minimal problems compared to others :(

his new thing is kinda having a nipple thudding when latched on, sends me a little crazy but my left nipple seems to be doing better since I got stricter on positioning when laying down. Does mean I'm more awake for night feeds though.

Penguin that is the price for one or both revisions Confused

I too have been getting stricter and following Mig's advice about nipple to roof of mouth. Still planning on going to drop-in on Thurs to get some face-to-face help.

Will wait and see what Dr Levinkind suggests. London is so much closer so at least then I wouldn't have the travel costs...

Hi everyone, sorry to resurrect an old thread but I would love to hear how all of you got on with your lip tie revisions, whether you would recommend Levinkind/ Cote Royd, and crucially did it make a difference to your DC's wind and sleep?

DS 9 months has never slept deeply and struggles so much with wind, I think his lip tie might be the cause.

I also had dreadful problems with my teeth etc as a child and would hate him to go through the same. If revising the lip tie might even make a small difference it would be worth it. (I had my frenum cut in my teens)
