My son is 6 months old and I have not yet got round to moving him to bottles (although he does take the odd one). I have a friend's 40th on Saturday - I don't intent to get drunk but I would like a couple of glasses as I haven't been out in about a year! Would this be ok as just a one off occasion? Should I pump to get rid of any bad milk first thing in the morning - how long does it take to metabolise in your system? Or should I just not worry as I really won't drink too much ...
Sorry if I sound like a terrible boozy mother, I'm not, I promise!

hello cheekychops. I think you most certainly do deserve a glass of wine.

It passes through your milk around the same rate as your blood, so about an hour per unit. Don't get drunk - for the hangover more than anything else Grin - but a few drinks will be fine. Have a lovely time.

The biggest issue with drinking whilst breastfeeding is being capable of caring for your child. It's safer to breastfeed drunk than bottle feed (whatever is in it) as you don't need to worry about making it up safely whilst drunk.

There is so very little alcohol in blood (and therefore milk) that you'd have to maintain a whole day of drunken coma to get enough alcohol to match a dose of gripe water. To give you an idea you have a BAC of 0.08% if you are over the limit and OJ has an ABV of 0.1%. If you were to sell your milk you'd never have enough alcohol in it to even call it "light".
