hi, ds is 12 weeks and i am struggling with fitting him down my side for rugby hold. we have relied on it since birth as we get the best latch in that psn and it's comfy for me. he seems to prefer it too but i am running out of room for his legs ! i have 3 pillows behind me and i am gonna fall off the front of the sofa if i put another one in ! just wondering if it's possible with an older baby ? thanks :)

my sister can only feed her ds in rugby hold on one side. He's almost 6 months now, she lies him on a v pillow and sort of tucks his legs up the back of the sofa so that his feet are in the air.

I could only feed DC1 in rugby ball hold and we kept going until they were nearly 2. As definite said, legs would go up in the air.

I also used cushions or pillows for supporting the body with my hand just supporting the head, so that DC could lie at an angle, giving a bit more space to lie.

There is also the option of feeding on the bed but I guess it depends how much your ds is feeding as to whether this is a practical option.

thank you both. so when his feet are in the air, foes that mean he would be almost looking up at the ceiling ? sss how did you manage out and about? i have only managed it once in rugby out, and that was on a hospital chair with an arm to lean my pillow on !

Yep my nephew does seem to be almost looking up. She tends to just feed off the other side when out and about, I think it has affected the supply in that side but she's planning on switching to formula soon so she isn't too bothered about long term supply.
Have you been to any local breastfeeding support groups? Maybe someone there could help show you other positions or even how to manage when out.

my dd feeds rugby hold on one side, and she is 5, so clearly it is fine for an older baby! She stretches out I suppose, I've never thought about it.

I rugby hold dd2 (13 wks) on the right as she can't latch straight across. When I'm out I have a fairly solid OiOi changing bag, I put it at the side of me, blanket on top, feet up on pushchair wheels in front (brake on), or a chair or something, then lay her on the changing bag just supporting her head, she faces up as sadly my nipple faces down Blush.

That way my other hand is free to stroke her lovingly eat or mn on the iPhone.

thank you :) some great ideas :) definite yes i have , but i am quite self conscious about feeding like that as it's not very discrete for me (have to get everything out and DS is not infront of me !), plus not keen on experimenting with positions in a group situ. will keep trying at home :)
