What did you do when feeding to sleep stopped working?

DD is 8 months and she always used to feed to sleep without fail but recently it's sometimes not working and I'm getting a bit stumped as to what to do. Tonight I fed her for ages but then she just lay there, chewing a lot on a teether but obviously tired, shaking her head from side to side. She's started not wanting to be held and fed to sleep so I've started lying down to feed her to sleep, which she seems to want to do as she roots for my boob but tonight she then bit me twice quite quickly after rooting and latching on. I don't know if it's because our positioning isn't quite right that she bit me.
I think she wants to lie down and fall asleep with someone as she does this with DH sometimes but I think she feels like she has to have boob with me, which I don't mind, but I don't want her biting me, it's making me flinch now when I go to latch her on, which isn't going to help the biting issue.

Exactly the same here. Was even going to post! My dd is bit younger 20 weeks but my fail safe feeding to sleep is starting to not work anymore aghhh! The last few nights has taken me ages to get her to sleep. Feed her for ages, let her comfort suck etc but she just aint falling asleep even tho she's tired. I have had some limited success with walking and feeding at same time. Have you tried that? Other than that I will be watching this thread closely!

I have done it when she's dropped off and I want to keep her asleep as I transfer but she's quite big and heavy now, plus I'm quite big boobed so I have to hold her quite low down to keep her latched on.
I love feeding her to sleep, it's easy and used to be guaranteed. I feel like if I can master the feeding lying down so she doesn't bloody bite me, it might continue but I'm not very good at it.
We're thinking about putting her in her own room but on a normal size single mattress on the floor. We'd have it pushed up to the corner of the room and have a bedguard on it so she can't fall out, then I can feed her to sleep and leave her there. I read about someone else doing it so might post about that as a separate issue on the sleep forum but wanted to put this one here as it's really about the boob!

okay i had a total nightmare last night as dd wouldn't fall asleep, wouldn't feed to sleep or be rocked. grrr.
dd is already in her own room next to us as she sleeps much better there. so, i too have put a beanbag matress thing on the floor and plan to feed her on there soon lying down and try and transfer her to the cot still asleep.
maybe your dd isn't latched on deeply enough when you lie down????

Today she fed to sleep all 3 times I had to put her down. She kept unlatching but I kept putting her back on and eventually she went to sleep. During the night she'll feed back to sleep no problem but there's no distractions then as it's dark. Today was a good day really, she had a 2.5hr nap this morning and a 40min nap this afternoon and only took 40mins to feed to sleep this evening. Let's hope she only wakes twice like last night although I may be pushing my luck lol

Hi fhdl again :)

I have had a similar thing with 8mo ds.I've found that if he has no further naps after his hour or so after lunch,he goes down more easily in the evening. Sometimes he wants a half hour nap in late afternoon, in which case I either keep him up a bit longer and put him to bed early at 630,by which time he's quite grumpy,or I let him have the nap but know he won't be tired for bed until 8 or so, even though he shows all signs of tiredness earlier.

Other things that seem to make bedtime take longer are him being too hot and teething. The door bouncer tires him out quite well too, then he's willing to feed to sleep more quickly...
