My DD is 10m, she was EBF up until last month when she started to have a bottle (formula) at 7pm, all going well. Then last week I had to go away for the weekend without DD, DH gave her bottles. I pumped while I was away, but on return my milk has diminished. I am ok with that, and have been BF her 1st thing in the morning, then one more late in the afternoon. However I am getting the feeling she is not getting enough and is grouchy.

So the last couple of days I have given her

BF at 7am on waking
FF (5oz) at 10am before nap time
FF (5oz) at 2/3pm
FF (5oz) at 6.30pm before bed.

If she wakes in the night DH has been offering her water as we night weaned her at 9m, but teething interrupts her sleep.

So, firstly, does that sound like enough?? She eats 3 meals and maybe 1/2 snacks a day as well and BLW, and is a good eater.

Secondly....how do I do ff out and about? I am really confused about how to do it safely, so I have made sure we are at home, or have taken a carton of milk out with me. I would prefer not keep buying cartons as she only ever manages half and it seems like such a waste.

Thank you!

Between 12 and 24 months the recommended amount, if you are ff, is 20oz, so it sounds like enough to me.

Do you want to continue with the 3 bottles or would you like to go back to bfing?

I'm in exactly the same situation.

With formula, I was shocked when I read the WHO guidelines because they differ from what's on the packet. You must make it with water above 70•C so within half hour of a kettle being boiled. This is because it isn't sterile in the box so could contain very harmful bacteria which are killed by these temperatures. Has to be used within 2 hours unless refrigerated where it can stay for 24 hrs.

I would like to continue with the bottles, am happy with just one Bf in the morning. It suits us as I will be returning to work in a month or so anyway.

So, can I make a feed up, put it in the fridge, take it out with me, then re-heat someplace?

Thanks for your replies veee and jilted

I don't think that's advised, unless it's at room temp for less than 2 hrs iyswim. However, it's impossible to ff without cartons if you can't do that! My sister has ff both of her dds (2.5 and 8mos) from birth and she uses cold tap water!!
