Breast Pads, which are best?

seabuckthorn · 17/08/2012 13:29

As the title says really, I have used Tommee Tippee in the past. Is there anything better?
I don't really have time for washables, disposables suit my needs.
Are Johnsons better? Lanonish? Or just own brand?
Boots had too much choice for my poor sleep deprived brain!

Thank you.

I find the only ones that don't leak for me are the Mothercare comfort fit - they come as a folded semi circle which you pull apart, so they cup the breast more as they're not quite flat when fully open.

I found Avent the best, they seemed to stay in place the best and are in wrappers which are easy to get the pad out of. Lanosh are good but the wrapper they are in is a bit of a faff. Sainsbury's pads are rubbish, really small and the sticky bit is too long so it ends up getting stuck to itself. These are the only 3 i've tried except the sillicone type which are good but only if you have tons of milk.

wasabipeanut · 17/08/2012 14:19

I know you don't like the idea of washables but honestly, they are no more work. I got 2 of the Boots brand 3 pair pack of pads and they are brilliant. They come in a net bag for washing so I just pop them in whoever I do a white wash on 60 degrees which is pretty damn frequently with muslins, leaked on vests etc. and they come up softer each time. I was using the Tommee Tippee pads before but don't like the amount of bathroom litter they generate! The reusables are less work for me as I empty my bathroom bin less!

belindarose · 17/08/2012 14:25

I leak masses in between feeds and only Tommee Tippees do anything at all for me. Reusables are just soaked straight through.

babyblabber · 17/08/2012 16:32

I use tommee tippee or Johnson and johnson. J&J are better I think as the TT ones don't hold up as well to being bashed around all day as you lower/raise your bra on and off. Used mothercare ones once and they tore and left little pieces of the silicone or whatever is inside them all over my nipple. Luckily I saw it before I latched DS on as I really wouldn't want him ingesting that!

Indith · 17/08/2012 16:38

Lansinoh for me.

NotGeoffVader · 17/08/2012 16:40

I found Lansinoh best. Tried several store own-brands and mothercare ones too. Most were too scratchy or small to deal with my milk fountains leaking profusely.

McKayz · 17/08/2012 17:29

I've found tommee tippee ones the best.

SilverSage · 17/08/2012 17:35

Avent for me.

nancerama · 17/08/2012 17:39

Tommee Tippee worked best for me. The others seemed to go lumpy inside.

RedKites · 17/08/2012 18:34

When I was leaking a lot, I found Lansinoh the best. Once things settled down a bit, I liked the Johnsons ones too, and they were less expensive so I went with them.

CommanderShepard · 17/08/2012 19:17

Wasabipeanut, which brand of washables do you use? I tried Boots own brand but they seemed too small and flat and the milk ended up trickling down past the edge and onto my bra and clothes. I would love to find better ones as I use cloth nappies and wipes but disposable breast pads and it feels a bit disingenuous!

CommanderShepard · 17/08/2012 19:18

Doh - sorry, you did say! Blush

PinkPepper · 17/08/2012 20:31

Lanisoh or Tommee Tippee for me, don't even waste your money on own brands, I leaked every night with tescos ones

heymammy · 17/08/2012 21:47

Lansinoh are the best for me, they are bigger than Johnsons etc and can cope with night-time leaking better than other brands I have tried.

wasabipeanut · 17/08/2012 22:04

I use the Boots ones Commandershepard . They are quite small but fine for me as I don't tend to leak too much. I have smallish boobs too - i'm a D when I'm full! I get the occasional random let down and I usually leak a bit most nights but I don't lose loads. With my first baby I woke up with soaked breast pads ever day but this is my third and somehow my boobs seem to calibrate with what's required!

sleeplessinderbyshire · 17/08/2012 22:07

Lansing or in an emergency trimmed tipped. All others are rubbish (johnsons are tiny, barely cover the nipple/areole area) friend gave me a box of nature baby are ones when she stopped feeding - they are worst of all, tiny, itchy and totally soaked through in minutes. I guess it depends how leaky your boobs are though

sleeplessinderbyshire · 17/08/2012 22:08

Damned I pad I meant tommee tippee not whatever wierdness it came up with

sleeplessinderbyshire · 17/08/2012 22:08

And key thing was LANSINOH not lancing

missingmymarbles · 17/08/2012 23:43

Commandershepherd - I use Little Lambs bamboo washables breast pads and find them great. They are really absorbent and super soft. They're £12 for 10 pads.

JezzaJ9 · 18/08/2012 03:44

Lansinoh %231 and then Tommee Tippee %232 all the rest were really big and visible and got soaked through you can get them for good value and free delivery on amazon I could never find lansinoh in my local shops x

seabuckthorn · 18/08/2012 08:26

Thanks all. I'll either get lansinoh or JJ I think. See what sainsburys is selling!

Ooh amazon, that's a good idea!

I used boots own, which were ok. Didn't like johnsons as bits of fluff came out and stuck to me. It was a bit awkward trying to pick the fluff off in public!

FutureNannyOgg · 18/08/2012 11:46

Have a look for Lilypadz. They are silicon ones that compress the nipple to stop leakage, you can only use them after 4 weeks but they wash under the tap.
Disposable wise I use TT, like the fact that they are so bit larger so not as wrinkle prone.
