major milk leakage

Ds 11 weeks feeds loads in the day and sleeps through the night. I have got to the point of plastering sanitary towels onto the inside of my nightie as breast pads don't cut it but still wake up in a milk puddle soaking wet. I was expecting it to have levelled out by now but clearly I'm producing enough for a night feed which isn't needed and ends up on the bed. Will have to replace this mattress when he's weaned cos its going to start smelling of sour milk. Any tips anyone?

Could you put those pampers mat things on the bed? You have my sympathy as I was like this, could never go to bed without wearing a bra until I stopped feeding at 11 months.

The changing mats? I haven't seen one. If they're absorbent that might at least save the bed a bit.

I used to have the same. I used nappies for a while! Yep you read right. Nappies. However mine did settle down about 15 ish weeks and now at 19 weeks I sometimes dont even wear a bra to bed!

Water proof cover for the mattress?

blueberryboybait · 15/08/2012 22:19

I put a waterproof sheet under my side of the bed topped with a towel and then wore tommee tippee breast pads with a bamboo washable breastpad inside, I still occasionally woke up in a puddle! We resorted to washable sheet, pampers bedmat, towel and then sheet, I changed the sheet and towel daily and the bed mat every couple of days. It only lasted a few weeks whilst my supply sorted itself out and got used ot the sleep filled nights.

I also sprinkled my bed with bicarb when I had leaked milk on it then hoovered it up once it was dry.

Not just me then! feekerry I've been eyeing up the leftover newborn nappies the last few nights. Might as well put them to good use. I'll definitely try the pampers mats. Anything washable like towels is an issue as we don't have a washing machine and I have to use the launderette which is getting more frequent and expensive due to the increased volume of milk-soaked sheets and nighties. I'll try bicarbing the mattress but fear it may be too late. Sounds like it should even out soon but hes been sleeping through since about 3 weeks old so it wants to hurry up.

If it makes you feel any better I have decided the fact that I was forced to wear a bra all through feeding has led to the fact that my boobs don't droop at all despite feeding three babies for three years in total. No idea if there is any scientific basis for this although I suppose not letting the weight drag and stretch the skin could be the reason but its a bonus.
I did end up only having to wear one breast pad and not wetting the bed by about 4 months.

You have my sympathy hazel. I was going to suggest towels but have just seen you don't have a washing machine. I would get a waterproof sheet, wear a bra and put in 2/3 breast pads. Failing that, then nappies. I remember the feeling so well, if I tried to turn over in bed, I swear to god my boobs were like a water balloon and sloshed all over the place.
DS2 was about 20 weeks when my boobs started to settle down.

Tried nappies. Worked a treat despite sniggers from dp. NCIS I like the sound of that payoff. :)

Not sure if cheaper than Pampers but Tesco do their own brand maternity bed mats which are in the baby aisle with maternity pads etc I used these post pregnancy and they definitely saved my bed!

Also I had a leaflet through the door a couple of days ago about a mattress cleaning company, so that could be an option rather than replacing your bed completely.

Hope that helps
