Bf 2 DC when one has virus?

My 2yo DD has a viral infection. She still feeds at morning & night. I also have 3mo DS who is ebf.
Is there any risk of cross-infection to DS if he feeds from the same breast? I don't think so but my MIL has put a tiny seed of doubt in my mind...
Mind you she's had the fever 36 hours already so bit late now anyway :(

If it's a contagious virus (as they all are!) then it's probably on your DD's saliva, on her skin, being breathed out by her, in her excrement......so your DS has probably been exposed to it already through other methods of transference then because he has gone straight on the breast that his sister has just finished with.

Any way you have been making antibodies in response to the virus your DD has been exposed to since the first time she nursed after picking up the virus, plus the Montgomery glands (the little bumps around your areola) make antimicrobial secretions to keep your breasts clean - which is why washing with soap isn't needed - nipples are self cleaning to a certain extent Wink Your son will have been given some of the antibodies made in response to his sister's virus in your milk as your breasts aren't clever enough to work out who needs what antibodies, this may help him fight the virus if it enters the body through mucosal/digestive pathways (i.e. nose/mouth or gut).

Hope your DD is feeling better by now.
