Baby posset - how much is too much?

I am breast feeding my new ds who is 4 weeks old. Every single feed some comes back. At first I thought he was over-feeding so I reduced the amount I was bf. He cried all the time. So I figured maybe he was hungry after puking what I think is quite alot for a small person so started topping him up after he brought it back.
I thought I had cracked it yesterday as it was our first really nice quiet day and night.
Now I have just topped him up 3 times off the same breast within an hour!!!! I would have left it only he cried for it each time.
That can't be right can it?

Babies are a bit random.

Is he puking up again after every time you feed him? How much does he puke? (a tiny bit of liquid can look like quite a lot)

How is his weight gain? How is his health generally?

My DS2 was a bit of a puker, but gained weight well, so we left it be. It got less, as he got older, and by 6 months or so, it had pretty much stopped. Now, at 17 months, he throws up very very rarely.

Thanks NQC. I have no experience of this as dd took to bf like a dream. This little chap is an entirely different matter.
The fact is he is putting on weight, he's fine in that respect.
I don't know how much is alot. It seems alot considering his stomach is supposed to be the size of a walnut!

Ah, see, my DS1 wasn't great at bf, and didn't posset barely at all. And most of the pukey babies (normal pukey, not ill pukey) I've known have been fat.

If it's not bugging him, and your gut instinct is, he's fine, then it's a laundry problem, not a medical problem, iyswim.

You can give some form of gaviscon, I think. But I don't quite seem the problem.

Heck! Seems like I'm going to have to live with it Sad Poor ds.

If it helps, it didn't seem to upset DS2 at all.

Thanks NQC. You have reassured me

DS2 possets what looks like loads of milk, but as he's gained 10oz a week since birth, it can't be affecting him too much! He's just a gannet, I think - I have a fast letdown and produce gallons of milk, so he takes down a lot of air trying to keep up - some of it comes back with milk attached Grin

DS1 was the same.

And remember that babies have growth spurts - sounds like one if he's wanting feeding three times in one hour. Just go with it and he'll settle down soon. DS2 is seven weeks old now and MUCH more settled - I literally fed him non-stop for the first six weeks, or so it felt!

DD2 is 6 weeks old and a complete gannet too she has put on nearly 1lb a week since birth too, she is very pukey too after most feeds and it looks like loads and loads, can't be affecting her too much though. Like hunkers DS2 I seem to have fed constantly for the past 6 weeks and hopefully she will be settling down more. Most evenings it has been 4 sides at least.

DD1 was the complete opposite she was never sick until she started rolling, one side only 10 minutes speed feeder so it has been a bit of a shock for me.

Stock up on the muslins and bibs!
