Medela replacement parts - what size?!

mammadothebump · 07/08/2012 16:52

I have father foolishly managed to melt my medela swing breastshield while sterilising it in a steamer (definitely going to buy a microwave now)!

I'm really strugging to source replacement parts as it seems the part I melted is no longer made and the shields are now personal fit. So I need to ask a potentially stupid question but how do I know what size to buy? I'm not exactly well endowed so likely to need small 21mm or standard 24 mm but not exactly sure what the measurements are based on, can anyone advise?

TIA.

I couldn't figure it out either. I'm a 33f/g but their website seemed to suggest that it was more to do with size of areola/nipples of which mine are small and possible flat.Confused

When you find out please post it up!

It's nothing to do with the cup size but it is to do with the diameter of the nipple. This shows how to check if the shield fits properly.

You would have had a 24mm size shield with a pump (unless you bought it 2nd hand then it may have been changed - hopefully the stamped on 24mm hasn't melted in that case! I have some spare shields and a spare bit that connects to the shield in a size 24 (and the bit that connects is standard) that I could send you if you like (free for postage costs only). The shields are unused as I am too small for a 21mm (am a F-G cup thoughHmm) let alone a 24mm! I have 3 24mm shields and 1 connector bit though I'd throw away the white valve as it is approx 2 years old.

Truthsweet That is a really lovely offer and one I'll gladly take you up on, thank you. Will pm you as soon as I'm home as can't do it from home. Thanks again.

Now just got to source a replacement le creuset steamer which has got the valve melted into it! Not sure how to explain that one to dh!

Thanks everyone for your advice too. Who knew a medela would melt so easily!

I have heard of people melting them in steam sterilisers too so be careful (I have yet to melt one though!)

You could try heating the steamer up again to see if the plastic softens a bit and is able to be pulled off? Worth a shot if it's bin-able otherwise.
