Should I offer both breasts?

Long story (for those of you following my feeding saga!) but I am bf dd (3 days old)

I hadn't planned on doing it, although I bf ds, I can't remember,. My milk came in today, at the moment she feeds and falls asleep. Should I take her off and switch breasts halfway through?

You can always offer a second side but she may not take it

switching might wake her up so she can get some of the hind milk, watch her poo's (not sure if her poo's will have changed to yellow yet cant remember!) but if they go green from yellow she is gettng too much fore milk. I was advised to switch to get my ds to feed better and it worked, but he was much older around 3 months. Just be careful of not emptying properly though you dont want mastitis. Is she waking shortly after feeding wanting more?? If so put her back on the same boob to see if she will finish it off which should reduce the chance of mastitis xxx Hope this makes sense and helps a bit xxxx

Don't worry about foremilk/hindmilk, just follow your baby's lead - if she comes off one side, offer the second, but don't switch for the sake of it. If she falls asleep it might be worth switching to the other to see if she takes a bit more.

She is on a while before she falls asleep and if you try to take her off she pulls back on!

I will try alternating if she comes off.

Sometimes they do that 'pulling back on' you've described even when they're finished, it's like a reflex thing.

Just offer the second side. LO rarely ever takes the 2nd side (15 weeks old!), he usually chucks up if he drinks from both sides.

I was told to offer 2nd breast with ds1 after i didn't at first, but he never wanted it so I just had to remember to put him on the other next time or I had wonky boobs.
It can't matter that much as when I had twins there was no way I could feed both at same time without only giving them one side each.

I only offered the other if she finished but was still awake or kept coming off and going back on. I wouldnt wake dd to offer the other. I wear a bobble on my wrist to remind me which side i need to start with next time.

I have only ever offered one side at a time, it is different for all babies and mothers and your supply may impact on what you need to do. My lo always filled up on one side and had no room for more but I have a plentiful supply. Other mums I know have to offer both sides because they don't produce as much milk. Hind / fore milk is not as cut and dried as pp said, newer findings are contradicting this. If bby is peeing pooing and gaining weight then you are getting it right.
