Mixed feeding in a hot climate and giving water

My folks have got a holiday home in a hot climate (not a stealth boast, promise) and I'm here for 3.5 weeks. As I return to head back to work and my DD is heading to nursery in September, I'm using this as an opportunity to start mixed feeding. My DD is 14 weeks and up 'til now has been EBF.

I'm starting her on one FF a day this week, next week we'll do two, and so on. If you EBF the advice is that babies don't need water for hydration as breastmilk will have the 'right' make up to suit the climate. Well now I'm starting on mixed feeding and it's really very hot (though we are in the cool of the aircon most of the day), what should I do? Do I give her some water? And if so, how much and when? Should I wait until there are more FF rather than BF? When would be the right time?

So many questions?! You can see my mind is boggling!

Thanks ladies for your help.

I was recently in hospital with DS when it was really hot, rooms were ridiculously hot too. I asked a nurse the same question and she didn't hesitate in saying that all babies should be offered water when it is hot ebf or ff. my DS is mix fed too. I offer no more than 2oz, and he would often only take half or one oz a couple of times a day. I was basically using it to settle him if he was not really due a feed.

I think a lot of the warnings about water are due to concerns of people giving too much water, which is bad for their system or filling them up too much then they don't take enough milk calories.

Use cool boiled water and if you can't drink tap where you are look for the lowest mineral content bottle water.

Oh and enjoy the break EnvyEnvyEnvy!

Thanks Monkey!

If it makes you feel better, I'm not having much of a break as I seem to be spending all my time working (when I'm not with my DD). The wonders of modern technology, allowing you to work wherever, whenever. Not.
