Is it normal for a baby to want to feed non-stop between 9pm - 5am and how the hell do I do that when I have to be up at 7 with toddler?

Title says it all really. My month old DS wanted to feed constantly last night from 9pm right up until 5am. I tried my best but had to supplement with 4oz of formula at 4.30am in the hope that I'd get some sleep. He drank it straight down but It bought me 2 hours only.

I'm now up feeding again and my toddler is awake too. I have to look after them both for the next 12 hours on my own on 2 hours sleep. Great!

I had heard about cluster feeding but thought it was usually more early evening time. How the hell am I supposed to sustain this feeding thing if it happens again? He had been feeding every 3 hours through the night previously which meant I had been getting sleep and I can't manage with so little.

DS would cluster feed from 8pm til 2 am, so no it's not necessarily an early evening thing. It's v hard going and I don't even have a toddler to look after too. All I can do is say it is a phase, it will pass. I realise that's no bloody use to you at all OP, just something to try and keep in mind in the wee hours to stop you gettin upset/hysterical thinking you either broke your boobs or the baby as this can't possibly be normal because ILs say so (like I did).

I don't know whether it's normal, but DS certainly did this a handful of times when he was small. If it does look like it might happen again tonight (though I hope not!) could you consider setting up for safe co-sleeping and feed lying down? That way you can at least get some rest, and hopefully a bit of sleep too.
