How do you know when the milk has stopped?

My DS is 10 months old and has been ebf. We've both just suffered from a really bad stomach bug and since then I think my supply is stopping.

My boobs don't feel full any more - and his nappies aren't as wet. I guess this could be because he's been ill, but also worried its because he's not getting enough milk.

Is there any way to know if my milk is drying up? If it is - is there anything I can do to get it going again? (I'm on holiday in a pretty remote place for the next couple of weeks, so no access to Dr etc).

Should have said - he's still feeding very regularly (about every 3 hours).

Thanks.

It is unlikely that your milk is drying up if he is feeding as frequent as this. Your supply may have dipped in response to your ds feeding less during his bug, I think best way to rectify this is to continue to feed on demand.

Someone more experienced may offer more insight.

Op is right supply can dip epically if you've been slightly dehydrate from the stomach bug. Just drink potently if fluids and keep feeding and thing will right themselves.

Just a not you're boobs feeling full or not is not an indication of supply. A women with a well established milk supply won't get this full feeling as supply is perfectly matched to babies need, so not a sign that anything is wrong.

Thanks for your replies. I really hope it rights itself - I want to get to 12 months.

I suppose full wasn't really the right term: I've dropped about 2 cup sizes in 2 days. They've been the same size for 10 months and have now shrunk loads - just thought it might be a sign something was wrong.

Not really my boobs where a size K cup size to start with now at 21 months with DS I'm back to a GG and I'm still feeding 4-5 times a day.

MigGril · 04/08/2012 21:14

yes and sometime the change in cup size has been quit sudden.

I recall around 10 months that my boobs never had that 'full' feeling they used to have and it kind of crept up on me iyswim. It was like they hadn't got milk in but clearly had. Is DS eating solids too?

With the bug he's had, he probably has not fed as much so your body will adjust again once he starts feeding more. Plenty of skin to skin (never to old for that) and you'll be fine. I'm sure you'll reach your 12 month mark (and beyond). I'll reach mine on Monday! Smile

Enjoy you holiday- sounds lovely being somewhere remote! Wink

Thanks again. He's had a couple of wet nappies today, so feeling a bit happier.

He is eating solids - but has been off his food the last few days. Usually a real pig- so sure he'll get back to normal soon!!

GodIsADJ - congratulations on your 12 months! I'm sure I'll make it too.
