Feeding expressed milk when out and about

Sorry if this is an obvious question! I've just started expressing so that DS can occasionally be fed by someone else, or so we can take a bottle out with us if we're somewhere where I don't want to breast feed him. I have an insulated bag for the bottle to keep it cool, but I guess I then need to warm it up before feeding it to him? Fine if I'm near a hot tap, but what if I'm not?! Say in a cafe, shopping centre, or out on a walk or in the park. What does everyone do?

well the obvious answer is to breastfeed him Wink

but if you really don't want to then take a flask of hot water so you can put the bottle in. i think you can get special ones with a beaker for a lid that's big enough to put a bottle in?

from personal experience though it's far easier to feed direct. if you feel uncomfortable doing it then it's worth practising in front of a mirror so you can see what everyone else sees. it's normally pretty much nothing!

he may take it cold - give it a try at home sometime - my DD always has.

I have got my baby used to drinking the stuff chilled - he can have it straight out of the fridge if needs be now. But if out and about I just feed direct from source as it is easier. In a park I find the nearest bench and in a café I just order another coffee and get comfortable. In a café they would certainly give you a cup of hot water to warm a bottle though.

My DS has always had it as it comes, not heated expressed milk at all.

Thanks all, plenty of options! I know it's easier to just BF him and I have a couple of times but I just find it awkward. Even at home I struggle with positioning ( though latch has always been fine )
I have to almost hold him on else he drops off. Then there's the getting out and putting away of a huge boob and rearranging clothes, breast pads etc! I don't know how people just do it, thought after 10 weeks I would have the hang of it! :(

I found breastfeeding in a park a good way to get started with the out and about breastfeeding - that and a really big muslin for latching on time - big enough that I can stick my head under it and sort things out.

Cydonia it took me till about three/four months to feel really comfortable with bf outside so do keep trying - I found it got a bit harder as LO got bigger and wrigglier so was harder to hold, but he hadn't got the hang of latching on himself yet. Maybe you're at that stage? Now, at 5 months, I can more or less hold him near a boob and he wiggles his way on, sometimes while I'm still faffing around tucking the muslin into my bra strap. Takes me by surprise on occasion :)

Oh, and do try different combinations of top/muslin/scraf - took me a while to find what was easiest for us.

Finally, I would also suggest getting him used to milk at room temp x
