my DD is 4 weeks old and ive been advised to supplement with bottle feeding alongside BF. sometimes i cant understand her cues for feeding and mistakenly make a bottle up which she doesnt want!!! how long can i keep an unused bottle at room temp before using it? thanks in advance...

a feed that has been drunk from should be discarded within 2 hours. If she doesnt drink any of it then you could put it in the fridge for the next feed.

I have been wondering this, and also how long if kept in a insulated bottle bag? Thank you and sorry for butting in your thread!

I know you didn't ask for breastfeeding help, but you are aware that supplementing with formula will reduce you're milk supply and can lead to stooping breastfeeding altogether.

If baby is in need of more milk then feeding more often will work just as well. plus getting some good real life help too make sure baby is feeding as effectively as possible.

1hr if the baby has drunk some of it. 2hrs if not.

I have always made up four feeds at a time and left to stand. always served at room temp. always thrown after use (even if only a bit drunk).

thanks all.
miggril- not all situations are equal- supplementation has been done on a paediatrician's advice.

pooh - no every situation is different, but even predations often don't have good breastfeeding support. If baby needs formula then fine but if you want to be breastfeeding this advice should be given along with proper breastfeeding support. Are you accessing this have you been refuted too the infante feeding specialist at you're hospital?
