can I still EBF??

I had issues with EBF with my DD and I think tthis was mainly due to bad advice and bad practice on my part. (I was told to feed my DD from one breast and then the other boob next feed) this lead to me loosing supply and having to stop feeding at about 10 weeks.

I'm now pg again and my left breast has been leaking (to the point of me waking up in a pool!) But my right one isn't at all!

I've managed to work myself up into a panic that I'm not going to be able to feed my LO when she arrives!!

TIA

I'd be as certain as it is possible to be that you can. Not everyone leaks, most people find their breasts different, it is possible to feed from one breast so even if one doesn't produce milk (unlikely) then you can still feed. Have confidence, follow the baby's cues and take each feed as it comes. You'll be fine :) (numbers for good help like LLL or NCT would be good too and details of local support groups!)

Thank you Indith!! I've been slowly working myself up into a frenzy because of it!

I've looked into the local breast feeding support group so I'll be joining that when LO arrives!!

Thanks again

I would say you will be able to too - you might be able to find ante-natal breastfeeding classes in some areas or you could even pop into the breast feeding group before you have your baby
there are some good breastfeeding books as well about

NoodieRoodie · 31/07/2012 20:16

I second everything Indith has said.

I've never leaked, never felt particularly full and only been engorged a couple of times BUT DS is a very hefty 9 month old. and I'm still feeding successfully.

It's probably worth looking around now to see if you have a local Breastfeeding support group. I'm a very newly qualified Peer Supporter and our group have just set up a breastfeeding cafe and we love pregnant women to come along. That way they can discuss any concerns before they have the baby and also get to know us so if they do have problems or questions after then at least they know us and feel happy giving us a ring.

Indith · 31/07/2012 20:47

Oh yes, I agree if you can get to a group while still pregnant, I always encourage women to come to ours but they seldom do. I think if you have been before it is easier to go after the baby is born. A lot of groups are very happy to have oldeer siblings along too :)

Agree with everything Indith says. No need to wait until LO arrives to go along to a bfing support group though, they will all welcome you when you are still PG. Have a look at this list of local groups.

There is some great information on Kellymom, including Information is your Ally, Nursing your newborn - what to expect in the early weeks, How does milk production work? and Tips for juggling a newborn and a toddler.

I will have a look at when the next group is then, thanks everyone!!

I've been a little reluctant to say it out loud as I thougth I might get laughed out of the place!

I'm 27, I should know what I'm doing by now!!

Don't be daft Grin, nobody knows everything. Each bf experience is different. I'm on my third child now and each one has been different. The middle one was a nightmare and in the midst of caring for the older one, rampant pnd, not knowing where the group was because I was so bloody smug about feeding having fed the older one no problem and everything else I didn't seek help. Bloody fool that I was.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 31/07/2012 21:00

I was 36 when I had DC1 and was totally clueless, nobody will expect you to know everything and every baby is different too Smile.

SirBoobAlot · 31/07/2012 21:06

Some mums don't leak any milk at all whilst pregnant :) Don't fret, its no indicator about milk supply. Agree with the others, pop along to a group, have a chat with someone face to face, to help ease your worries. I now do breastfeeding sessions as part of the antenatal sessions locally, and encourage the mums to come along to the weekly group whenever they want.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 31/07/2012 21:17

Agree with SirBoob too. I never leaked while pregnant and could barely express a drop with DC1. Neither are an indication of low supply and he became quite chubby Smile.

naturalbaby · 31/07/2012 21:21

I never leaked and also mostly fed all my babies from one boob each feed. One side would feel full and leak after baby arrived, the other always felt emptier. I ebf all 3 for 7months.
