recovering from mastitis

my second baby is 2.5 weeks old and last week I ended up admitted with really horrible mastitis. I needed 48hr IV antibiotics and am home on 2 weeks oral antibiotics. I am loads better and the breast looks normal now. The initial latch that side is still toecurling but I can tolerate feeding her now. After a feed though I have odd aching just in the sector where the redness/swelling from mastitis was worst. The area looks a bit bruised but is soft, normal temperature, no redness and I've not had a fever for 4 days now.

I assume this is normal and will settle. Anyone been through this and can tell me how long before I need to stop having to be really careful with latching and pretty much unable to feed in public? She's a monkey about not opening wide enough for that side (she's brilliant on the other side) have had tons of support in hospital with feeds and doing rugby ball hold/cross cradle that side where before it started she would self latch in any position and was getting good at feeding lying down in the night.

Gosh poor you! I had mastitis two weeks in as well so feel for you. .I had residual pain for two weeks & was given antibiotics to cover until it had gone to prevent reoccurrence.

DS also had a rubbish latch on that side which only improved after a few trips to a cranial oestopath.

Just to be aware I also developed thrush after all the antibiotics, so it may be worth getting some probiotics as a prophylaxis.

Hope it improves & congrats on your LO Smile
