Nighttime feed - should she be doing it herself?

I feel I should know the answer to this instinctively but I don't Blush

My 10-month-old can pretty much get on with it and feed herself now, but her last feed at night we feed her (on our bed) and by the end of it she's either asleep or not far off. Then we transfer her to her own room and put her to bed and she goes to sleep.

That's on a good night.

Sometimes (rarely, but last night was one hence my post) we have the situation where she has her bottle then the process of transferring her to her bed she throws up the entire bottle plus half-digested food from dinner in an exorcist-style fountain. There then ensues mass panic, climbing in and out of showers, trying to get vomit out of carpets, having to make up another bottle, you get the picture.

I think this could be avoided if she had her last bottle in her cot but I don't know if this is ok and what other people do so I just wondered?

Many thanks!

I have never given a bottle when they are lying down - dont think it is advised due to a choking risk and the milk can flow into the middle ear and cause infection. Is she fairly upright when she is drinking the bedtime feed and does she burp afterwards? It could be trapped wind causing the vomiting if she doesnt bring her wind up after her feed.

I didn't know that Blush I was BFing up to 8mo and never felt I was doing the right thing with bottles tbh.

But yes she is propped on our pillows plus a v-shaped pillow when she feeds.

I guess that answers my question then as she wouldn't be propped up in her cot.

Thanks!

It's not recommended as they can fall asleep with milk pooled in their mouth which is lethal for their teeth.

Not sure about the feeding but my DD went through a charming phase of puking as you describe at about that age. About every other night in our case, it was lovely. She was bfed though, not bottle.

It passed though. She's now turned one and I can't remember the last time she did it. Not sure if that's any help or not Grin
