Can you overfeed a bottle-fed baby?

My little one is guzzling bottles like there's no tomorrow, he's on about 100mls every 4 hours, but he's only 9 weeks/7.1lb (born at 30 weeks, so 39 weeks).

Sometimes he'll guzzle a bottle, then still want more. He does wriggle around like his little tum is hurting though, so I am worried about overfeeding him.

He's on a combination of special prem formula and expressed breast milk.

Is it possible to over feed a baby, or will they just stop when they're full? I worry about his little tum, but don't want to not feed him.

3oz every 4 hours isnt that much really - my 2 still fed about 3 hourly at that age and took more than 3oz each time. If he regularly drains the bottles then add an extra ounce to each of them. If he was early he could just be trying to catch up with his growth.

At that age surely you should be demand feeding?

Little and often will be kinder on his little tummy.

He is being fed on demand, it's just that he's recently started taking 100mls then sleeping for 4 hours.... I'd prefer little & often, but he prefers just to guzzle loads in one go!

In that case I wouldn't worry.

Is he well, gaining weight, wet nappies, alert etc?

IMO over feeding happens when the adult does the ''twist'' to try to get another few mouthfuls in, over-riding the baby's ''I've finished'' cues - turning head away or pushing out teat with tongue for eg

Following the baby's cues is spot on
