Should I give BF baby water?

DD is nearly 7 weeks and although she has plenty of dirty nappies, she often struggles to poo/fart. She screams, goes really red and kicks her legs like a maniac. Often this goes on for hours, interspersed with the odd short nap. It breaks my heart as she seems so uncomfortable and is so hard to console. It's also exhausting as the last 2 nights it's started around 1am and lasted til 7am. She also doesn't feed well during these bouts as she's so so worked up.

I've tried cycling her legs & tummy massage to no avail. Am thinking of trying to get her to take an oz or two of water but really didn't think a BF baby needed water. The poo is liquid when it does come.

What do you think? Any other ideas?

I wouldn't give her water if her poos are liquid and she has plenty of dirty nappies. It sounds much more colicy than constipation.

Some nd babies don't have a poo for weeks. Yes, about 10 days!
If she's screaming, and this tip has worked before, cycle motion her little legsto ease her pain/ wind.
Also, no water needed as bm has formilk, which is the watery part. Your body will correspond to the weather, thus producing more foremilk.

No need for water, and actually giving a bottle may well make any type of wind worse.

Have you had your latch checked? Very often it can be just that its slightly off, and when adjusted, you may find a reduction in her wind.

Just googled colic, sounds like that's it. It says it peaks at 6 weeks and the last week has been the worst but fingers crossed that means we'll be over it soon. I might cut out dairy for a week to see if that helps.

Thanks for the replies. Never even thought of colic.
