Gaviscon coming back up

My daughter (11 weeks tomorrow) was prescribed Gaviscon for suspected reflux about 3 weeks ago. It seems to have helped but recently when I give it to her - with a syringe as she won't take a bottle from me - I keep her upright and she brings it back up and continues doing so for 30 mins or so. As I understand it, that pretty much cancels out the dose.

Even when I feed her without giving her Gaviscon afterwards she brings a lot of it back up - but it's not projectile and quite saliva-y.

She'll take a bottle from my husband but vomits that up too. However, she's putting on weight and has loads of wet nappies and usually one poo a day so something is going right at least.

Any ideas on how to get it to stay down? She doesn't seem massively upset by it anymore but I dread feeding her when we're out because I can guarantee I'll end up covered in baby sick :( Is there anything I can realistically do (I think my oversupply could be back - can it come back?!) or is it a case of gritting my teeth and hoping she grows out of it?

DS has reflux too so I sympathise. Is she distressed or in discomfort from the vomiting? If she isn't, you could potentially just view it as something she will grow out of and resign yourself to lots of laundry.

On the other hand there are other meds that can be considered. DS was helped slightly by gaviscon but was still sick. We went back to our doctor as DS was obviously in pain - even though his weight gain has always been fine. (no idea how given the amount he was sick). Anyway he's now on ranitidine, which effectively lessens the acidity of the stomach so causes less pain when he is sick. He's also on domperidone which moves everything through his system quicker therefore giving it less time to be vomited back up again. He's loads happier since on these and although I felt uncomfortable medicating a young baby - he is 6mo now - it has been worth it in his case as he is no longer screaming in pain.

Sitting up helps, sleeping slightly propped up does too. So does weaning although your DD is still very young. Ultimately there isn't anything to stop the sickness completely, their stomachs just need to mature.

If you do decide to go to the GP again to ask about further medicines, just be aware they may not prescribe anything but could refer you to a pediatrician. Ours did; the waiting list was 3 months so we paid for an initial private referral to get him started. You might not be in a position to do that but I can recommend it if you are able.
