advice needed - little one with trapped wind

my little one is 39 weeks nearly, he was born at 30 weeks, but he's been home with us since 36 weeks.

He's got terrible trapped wind and I think reflux (sick/possets in sleep & when straining to pass wind), he's in terrible discomfort - really screaming and crying, arching back, wriggling about & just generally very unhappy.

He won't sleep in his cot, spits up and screams every time he's down, and will only sleep when upright on me.

He's not slept very well today, and the last three feeds have only been small ones (in comparison to normal), he's bottle fed expressed milk & NP2 formula.

He's currently fast asleep in my arms. He's due a feed now, but that's based on small amount taken 2 hours ago. My question is do I wake him for a feed or let him sleep?

Just seen this, and didn't want to leave it without a response. I hope things went ok last night - what did you do in the end?

I don't know much about reflux except that most babies get it to some extent and some get it severely. Can you talk to your health visitor about it?

Hopefully people with more experience will be along soon.

Thanks Scatterplot I decided to do both, left him for half an hour (as he hadn't slept much at all) and then woke him for feeding, as he hadn't eaten much either.

He had an unsettled night with really bad trapped wind, but we have some baby Gaviscon from Drs for reflux and some infacol, so hopefully that will help. (Fingers crossed!) :)

Infacol is great stuff.
I find with the babies I look after that a good stretch helps lifting them under the arms and letting their diaphragm stretch out. Also holding like a tiger in a tree over your arm and rubbing their back.
Hope it's a little easier today, the heat may not have been helping either.
