Hello Everyone

My 5 WO is EBF. She seemed like she was suffering from colic, so I tried cutting dairy out my diet and it seems to have worked :)

However .....I am struggling calorie wise and concerned that I am gonna get bored really fast! Has anyone else done this? It seems to be in everything :( What were your treats....it was bad enough without wine but no chocolate....how can I cope!?!!

Any advice gratefully received!

Frog

Not much help with the lactose free diet but you can have wine! A glass in the evening is fine.

Oh just had an idea to sort out your chocolate problem. What about making Hugh FW's all cocoa brownies but using Coconut Oil (it's solid) instead of butter. They are really easy to make and very very tasty. Oh and you can freeze them so you could make a batch and put some away for later.

You don't need to avoid lactose (milk sugar) as it is in your milk regardless - it will be cow's milk protein that your baby is reacting to. Lactose free products still have CMP in them.

You can go lactose free but it won't make any difference to your BM - lactose is an integral part of it. Cow's milk protein on the other hand may well be present in your BM previously so if eliminating that has helped then great. Don't worry that you got the two terms mixed a lot of Drs/HV/MW get the two mixed up so you are in good company!

There is a wide selection of dairy free foods now - even chocolate (they make dairy & wheat free chocolate fingers now Grin) so check out the freefrom section of your larger supermarket/health food shop. You can get dairy free flapjacks, biscuits, cakes all sorts (I am wheat free for DD3 so there is some overlap between the two).

PS you can drink wine, vodka, gin, whatever when bfing just don't drink then bf alone or bedshare - have your partner or a friend stay with you while you feed to take baby away at the end of the feed and settle them in their own cot.

I'm dairy free for DS but still managing a bar of chocolate a night, have just switched to dark chocolate. Blush

I also eat a fair amount of nuts to get the calories, hummus, pâté etc instead of cheese. You get used to it pretty quickly. I actually feel much better for it too Smile

I went dairy free about 6 wks ago & am rather keen on almond milk, rice milk too, many bowls of cereal, ive heard oreos have no cow milk in them :) dark choc, hummous & crisps, carrots, celery, the odd glass of wine or beer in the evenibg when i know theres a few hrs til nxt feed.... And ice lollys in this heat :) i feel more energetic having given up dairy & my skin is softer too weirdly!
