my dd is 5.5 months for the first time ever with her or any of the others i got mastitis last week. It wasnt that bad at the time, it was very red all over really as opposed to one spot but I had no other symptoms apart from general soreness in that breast I felt ok. I saw a doctor who gave me antibiotics and tbh by the next day it was mostly gone anyway - i think it would have gone on its own in any case.

but now i cant stop obbsessing over it I keep checking to see if the redness is back and poking myself to see if im sore (im not) its got to the point where i am thinking "sod this" ive breastfed for years of my life i have had enough but really i know its that for some reason i am terrified of this coming back!.

I know it sounds silly but can anyone offer any advice?

Why are you terrified of it coming back 5dc, you say yourself that it wasn't that bad at the time.

How would you feel if you did give up bfing now? How long did you feed the others for?

I used to suffer from anxiety which has been really well controlled for a while but this whole thing just made that feel ever so close again :(. I fed for over a year before this. I would be upset if i gave up but tbh as it is for such a silly reason.

If that's the case, I don't think that giving up bfing is the answer, unless you really want too. Your anxiety seems to be returning, think you might be better talking to your GP about that first.

Good Luck.

You don't sound silly at all - if you have a history of anxiety then anything can trigger off those feelings. I too have always suffered and only last night, I began to feel a bit panicky as for some reason, my milk just wouldn't let down. I got myself in to a bit of a state but it all worked out in the end. It doesn't sound like giving up the feeding is the answer, see how you feel in a couple of days and then maybe think about going to the GP if you honestly feel like the anxiety could be returning.

Stopping bf is more likely to trigger another bout of mastitis than carrying on bf is, TBH.

With all three of mine I've had a blocked duct at between 5 and 7 months, not before or afterwards. There's no particular reason this should happen to you again.
