Feeding a baby with teeth......

DD is nearly 9 months old and in the past month or so her 4 top front teeth have come through. It's making it really uncomfortable to feed her as I can feel the sharp edges against me and now have little red marks where the teeth have been. She's not biting me, so is there anything I can do to make feeding more comfortable?

Oh I had this, it's horrid isn't it?

I just went back to the early days of cross-cradle position and taking ages to make sure he had a good latch, taking him off and relatching if I could feel any teeth. I had got used to him just helping himself in bed and I think his latch had slipped, which I could feel when the teeth arrived.

After a week or so the pain stopped (and he is now back to his slap-dash latching approach) so I think maybe they learn to adjust as the teeth come in.

Hope it sorts itself out soon.

Thanks - I'll try positioning her at a different angle. I think it's worse at the moment because the teeth hit a place which is already sore. Glad to hear it's only temporary though!

I had exactly the same thing when DD's first top teeth came through. Like Apollo I just tried to make sure she was latched on properly to minimise the discomfort. I found that it stopped after a few days, presumably when she started to get used to the new teeth. I've found that she does tend to bite while feeding every time she gets a new top tooth, but it only happens once or twice and then we're back to normal.

Thanks hefner, I'm feeding her now in a more sideways position, and I can't feel the teeth, so hopefully it's just a short term problem.
