Using a cup/beaker for formula?

I've just noticed on the formula tin that it states "Use a cup or beaker by 6 months if possible, and in any case as soon as the first tooth appears."

DS is 15 weeks, and got his first two teeth at 12 weeks, and two more look as though they are about to come through very soon! Should I be feeding him from a beaker? Surely not?!

I've tried ringing the SMA care line but it doesn't connect....

I can't think why the tooth would be relevant, unless it's to do with biting the teat?

I think it is to do with tooth decay...and drinking from a teat is effectively bathing the tooth in the formula...which has sugars in it. But surely beakers are the same? I can't see a 15 week old enjoying a beaker! I wouldn't worry about it tbh.

They have to put these warnings on...but really...what about a baby who was born with teeth as sometimes happens! Would they really advise a newborn to be fed by beaker! Hardly.

Forget it.

And I think it's important for babies' speech to suck for the first year, this was said to me by my dd's speech therapist.

Ok thanks, will carry on with the bottle. As you say, I'm not sure he'd enjoy a beaker!

I brush his teeth twice daily, but will keep an eye on them.

I bet someone sued one of the formula companies when their baby had a cavity.
