My friend says that because she wants her ds to be dairy free ( previous child intolerant) she herself will have to go dairy free whilst feeding.

I just cant believe this but am sure one of you will have the answer....

Her baby is not born but mine is and i am intrigued!

My friend whose ds had terrible intolerances gave up all dairy and a number of other things when breast feeding him and the change in her ds was miraculous.

gosh thats really interesting but slightly worring! I want to keep mine dairy free till at least a year - unfortunately it sounds like it might alredy be too late!

I haven't read it all, but \link{http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/food-sensitivity.html#dairy\found this on Kellymom.com}

I think it depends on levels of intolerance my friends ds was multi allergic and had anaphalactic [sp] reactions to certain things. Im sure there is someone on here who has first hand experience.

Thanks Racers that is really interesting! I will forward it to her!

I didn't give up dairy whilst BF (my own intolerance was dx later) and my son became rather ill and his weight fropped to around 4 lbs as a result of his reaction to dairy in my diet.

Have since found it is recommended for dairy intol babies to give up dairy yourself, or so I am told.

A friend whose son was severely allergic found she had to give up dairy products as well, to improve his symptoms. It made a marked difference, there was no question but that it was affecting him.

It really depends on what sort of problem her older child had.

A friend of mine's eldest child has a severe dairy allergy. Anaphalactic shock, etc etc. Now, at 5, he still has it. As well as reactions to some sunscreens, additives, etc etc.

But he was fine while breastfeeding, and she loves cheese, so that didn't pose any problems. Her two later kids don't have any problems with dairy.

I only know one person whose child seemed to be really really sensitive to her diet while bf. She had to have an extremely restricted diet, and once her child was on solids, she had to be very vigilant indeed. But that is very very rare.

My ds has ezcema and I went diary free for a while, as I am breastfeeding him. Don't really think it has made any difference at all to his skin.
