Posting here due to increased traffic yada yada...

Apologies if people are aware of these already BUT I just wanted to make sure I get the word out.

I have an almost 3 week old baby. We got off to a good start with BF but a lazy latch during the night a couple of days ago caused a huge and EXTREMELY painful crack half way around the base of my nipple. I couldn't feed from that side and even my clothes touching it was agony. It was so bad that even expressing on the lowest setting made me cry Sad I tried Jelonet, Lansinoh, bathing with salt, you name it but it looked to be getting worse not better.

I read about Silverette breast healing cups on another forum and in complete desperation decided to try them.

Well, it's like a miracle has occurred, in less than 24 hours of wearing the cups the crack has healed and my breast is completely pain free. I am feeding from there again with no pain whatsoever (and my DC has a truly fearsome suck) and wearing the Silverttes between all feeds now.

They are quite expensive (I paid £39 for mine) but they are truly amazing. I have no links to the company or anything before people start getting narky. I am just a long term member of MN who wants to make sure people know these things exist. Apparently they are huge in Italy but haven't really taken off over here.

Anyway HTH someone else as much as it has for me.

I agree Silverette works. I went through 10 weeks of hell with breastfeeding. 3 courses of Fluconazole (stronger and longer each time), tubes of Daktarin for me and baby, 4 trips to GP etc. in the end complications led to a trip to hospital. Scans and biopsy revealed and abscess. I also had cracks and blisters in my nipples that just wouldn't heal and sharp, agonising stabbing pains in my right breast. Anyway, after a course of antibiotics the stabbing stopped but I knew they wouldn't heal or the infection would come back if the nipple wasn't healed so I bought these cups. I read about them on mumsnet and was sceptical but as they were recommended by the NHS Lothian Breastfeeding Specialist Karla Napier I thought they would be worth £40. Best bloomin £40 I've ever spent. Both nipples completely healed within days and breastfeeding is a total joy.

Just thought I'd add to this as there are very few reviews online for this product. I searched for some before buying as they're expensive (though I'd been getting through Lasinoh so speedily that is have ended up spending as much in the end).

I bought some as I'd been having a lot of nipple pain (unresolved since a snipped tongue tie). Maybe my nipples would have toughened up of their own accord, but - having started using them 48hrs ago - I am in significantly less pain. The little man is only 2 weeks, but they're made a difference.

Might help someone!

I came across this site just seeing women experiences using Silverette. I must add some woman here are just plain nasty. No one is forcing you to buy anything. If you don't need to be mean about it.

Anyhow I wanted to say I was just as skeptical as some people about these Silverette. I make a decent salary and I tend to throw money at things to solve a problem. When I had my first baby last year, breastfeeding was painful. The blisters and cracks and bleeding was all there and I did the whole creams, lotions, tea bags and all the BS that was out there.

My NHS Midwife gave me a generic answer to say keep trying because on the 2nd week I told her i was going formula. Then she said well im not allow to recommend products but there is these silver cups used in Italy you might want to try it.

So I went to google ordered it. Yes it's pricey but it's like going out for a meal for us adults and this baby is going to get 6 courses a day for the next 6 weeks at least.

So I just did what the instructions said, wear them and put a bit of milk in the cups. I can say within 24hrs the blisters were healing. Yes breastfeeding was slightly painful but you can see the skin being repaired. It's all to do with the silver i believe that helps with the healing process

Anyways that's my story on these cups. It help me improve my latch so 7 months on and i am still breastfeeding.

Hope this story helps others with problems with sore nipples.
