Sorry some of the things i am going to ask will be repetitive im sure.
My lo is now 4days old and my nilk is in in full force! i have started using these avent shell things between feeds to help stop nipples from chaffing etc as they were starting tk get in abit of a mess
these shells also collect the milk that leaks so you can save it..ny ques is can i save what i am leaking in little bits and bobs.eg leak some-add to sterlised bottle in fridge and keep adding to that bottle during thd day then freeze?as there isnt enough in one little lot to freeze?hooe this.makes sense-will wait in anticipation for your replies!!!x

Yes you can collect in little bits and bobs - I use avent storage cups that you can buy fairly cheaply, I don't use the shells anymore but if I express a bit in the morning I put it in the cup and then I add to it in the afternoon and if I'm not going to use it then I put in the freezer.

Congratulations, hope you're enjoying your LO!

It's not a good idea to use the milk that collects in the shells, because they aren't sterile.

If your nipples are starting to get chafed and sore, its a good idea to ask for help with your latch now before it gets any worse! Hopefully your midwife might be able to help, if not a local breastfeeding support group.

i just sterilised the shells, i assumed that would be ok.

I've been sterilising the shells and then collecting the milk to store. Is that not ok? Sad

thezoobmeister · 22/07/2012 11:43

sorry, didn't mean to make anyone worry Blush

I don't think there is any hard and fast rule about collecting the milk, it depends on how long the milk has been in there?

If the shells are sterile when you put them on, and then you're only wearing them for half an hour or so before taking the milk out and storing in the fridge/freezer, that's probably OK. But it's probably not a good idea to store milk that has been sloshing around for hours in a warm environment next to your skin!
