PMT and hormonal changes after bf

I have always had PMT (mood swings, anxiety etc) and have in the last 6 weeks cut down on bf my 13 month old.

I have not had my period yet and am wondering what other's experiences have been when they get their first period back after bf/pregnancy.

I hope to gauge whether my feelings at this time are caused by PMT/hormones or whether it is something else. I am feeling very anxious and uncertain about everything.

imho some of us are more influenced by our hormones than others. I had migraines and other random stuff whilst bfing - but regardless carried on to anything up to 18mo with the three dc. Your hormones will be all over the place. Don't know if it's helpful to you (and it probably isn't) but hugely coincidentally I only escaped pnd after a year following stopping bfing each time. The only useful deduction I can make from this, entirely non-medically speaking, is that perhaps it takes a year for it to settle down again afterwards to a "normal" level where you can function again. Some people are quite obviously not this affected by it all and happily cruise through pregnancy, bfing and the rest. What are you thinking? Any other symptoms or am I reading right that it's a mood thing?

Thank you Mrsshrek

Sorry but I dont understand "I only escaped pnd after a year following stopping bfing each time."

Yes all mood swing related.

I used to map my cycles and I was affected by PMT mood swings a few days after ovulation and it stopped for a few days before my period. Progesterone related if I recall correctly, maybe not striclty PMT, as it stopped a couple of days before my period and not exactly when my period started. But it was caused by hormonal changes.

So hard to recall how I felt though as it was so long ago now, last period was nearly 2 years ago.

I had some bad mood swings and anxiety during pregnancy that I put down to hormones and change of life circumstance but have felt pretty good since giving birth.
