Slowest Teat

My newborn keeps choking when I feed her from a bottle. I talked to the midwife and she said she thinks it's because the baby is getting too much milk too fast and to slow her down and try to feed her before she gets upset. I am using the Tommee Tippee: Closer to Nature bottles with a newborn teat, but when I tilt them upside down I noticed the milk comes out very fast. I had a free Advent bottle and when I used that she doesn't seem to choke and the flow is slower when turned upside down. I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with slow teats, so we can try multiple ones and see which works best. Thank you in advance :).

avent do a newborn teat and then a slow flow which is from 1+ months. Tommee tippee just does a slow flow which covers from birth to 3 months. The only problem is that avent teats are not compatible with other wide necked bottles so you couldnt just buy teats and use them on the TT bottles. You could buy a couple of avent bottles to do you until your lo can cope with a slightly faster flow

Have u tried the variflow teat? I bought it for dd when she was a month old because the first size was too small for her but she struggled with the variflow even more. Had to buy the 3+ month ones. It's worth a try?

I mean the variflow for tommee tippee bottles.

When DD was given a bottle in hospital they used a NUK teat, which we noticed was much much slower than the closer to nature teat that we had at home. I've looked out for them in the shops, but have only found the medium sized hole ones, whereas it's the small hole ones that are recommended for breast milk - sure you could get them online though

You could try the hyberman (spell?) feeder. Late Tracy Hogg (The Baby Whisperer) always recommends this on her programmes. It is a bottle which mimicks feeding from the breast. The baby actually controls the let down from the teat by sucking, just as it would on the breast. Not tried it but can always research it on the net.
