Very painful when latching on on one side

Just want some support/thoughts. I have a very new (2 week old) DC2. DC1 nursed for 3 years, but I am now learning all over again with DC2.

On one side it is really painful for 30 seconds (25 sucks or so) on first latch on. After that it gets much better although still not as comfy as the other side. It might be a left over tenderness from a bad latch 2-3 days ago - we are still learrning how to position ourselves best.

I don't think it is thrush - although I don't know what that feels like I can see no white spots in DC2's mouth -not sure what I should look out for on me.

Any thoughts/advice - I can feel myself tensing up and flinching on that side initially which is not good for either of us - DC2 is getting impatient for milk and then ends up bobbing on and off which is not as comfy for me!

have you tried a rugby hold? so that baby is latching on in the same way as s/he would on the other side?

maybe try biological nurturing and see if that helps?

Is it nipple soreness or breast soreness?
Nipple soreness would suggest a poor latch which could simply be because it is not your favourite side or easiest side to feed him on. Try different positions and relatch him if it is painful. You caould also try expressing some before you latch so you create a better shape for him to latch onto. If you are full your breast becomes more rounded and harder for them to suckle onto.
If it is breast pain it could be a blocked/inflamed duct, keep feeding if it is that as it will only get worse if you stop.

Thank you. Reasonable sure it is nipple soreness, but whole breast is tender at let down and when full, so difficult to tell. I am lazy and have been mainly feeding lying down, so now experimenting with changing position. It helps if the painful side is the second side I think then the suck is not so vigorous.
Am trying the rugby position but I find it difficult to relax with that - I end up leaning forwards all the time.
