Feeding issues and routine

My 4mo (just) DD is breast fed. She's never had a problem until a couple of weeks ago when she started sicking up a lot after each feed. It's not just a bit, it seems like a lot of sick to me and it's quite clotted (Iykwim). It's strange because it's only just started happening.

We've got ourselves into a 3 hourly feeding routine at roughly 8, 11, 2, 5 and then at 7pm bedtime and a friend suggested that maybe she was ready to go longer between feeds and that the reason she was sick was because she's having more at each feed (as her stomach is bigger) and feeding too regularly to take it all in. Does this make any sense?

Or could it be reflux appearing late?

Thoughts appreciated!

Speck to gp our Heath visitor about the sickness.

It's quit unusual for a breastfed baby to go longer then 3 hours between feeds. If she's still taking a feed at those times then she probably still needs it. Not sure a have always fed mine on demand as that is what is recommended.

Yes, we were doing on demand but she's a very placid baby and when she was hungry she'd go from nowhere to screaming and then wouldn't latch as she was so cross we had to calm her down with a finger or dummy, so I started trying to pre-empt her hunger and we sort of fell into a routine of roughly 3 hourly feeds (which is what she was doing "on demand" anyway). Maybe I'll see how she does without estimating when she'll be hungry.

I fed both of mine on demand but DD sort of fell into a regular pattern in the day too. Don't think your friend is right though, as from experience (of just 2) they wouldn't feed if they didn't want it!

Agree with Migril, speak to your HV or Doctor.
