Constant breastfeeding

My DD is almost 6 weeks old and for the past two days has seemed tp want to constantly breastfeed. I'm finding that she'll feed on and off for about an hour and half but stopping and starting and will cry to be fed again even after coming off herself.

I am also worried about my milk supply. My breasts haven't felt full at all for the past couple of days and when I tried to express yesterday I barely managed 1oz when before I could easily get 4oz from 1 breast.

Can anyone give any advice?

MuminCyprus, this is so normal. Almost all babies do it at some time. It may be that your baby needs more milk at this time, in order to grow the way she is 'programmed' to grow (so you will hear people saying this is a 'growth spurt'). She may need the extra closeness and comfort of more breastfeeding for develomental/behaviour reasons. As long as she is healthy, growing and thriving, there is no need for concern.

It is also normal for breasts to feel less full during these times. There is milk there, but smaller volumes at any one time - the milk is higher in fat, though. It does not mean your supply is compromised.

With a baby feeding very frequently like this, it is normal for expressing to produce less, too. It does not matter a bit.

Roll with it. From what you say here, your body, and your baby, and your breastfeeding are all just fine. Things will change again, soon.

Normal. My DD once fed for 15 hours with a few 10 mins break during a growth spurt. It doesn't last forever.
